hi board. i am wondering if anybody knows if there is a way to connect a dell axim pocket pc to my home pc with a usb cable and then connect to the internet through my cable modem. the only way that seems possible to connect to the internet with this thing is to connect to a computer that uses a dial up internet connection. anybody know anything about this? thanks a lot.

in the config for ie, go to proxy, check the first box, like my network, but do not check the 2nd box which is use proxy, thus that and the area for you to enter proxy addy is gray out,

click x to exit exit etc etc

you should be able to connect it through the usb.

edit: ok, you made me double check to make sure.

ok here is

start/setting/connections/connections/proxy/check "this network connects to the internet", leave others gray out. OK to exit

or through connections, click advance, select networks/select my networks/edit/proxy etc

thank you, mikop. i tried what you told me, but i couldn't find a couple of the applets. i don't really have a lot of experience using these handheld things. anyhow, i reinstalled the Microsoft ActiveSync program on my home computer and then the pocket pc was able to connect to the internet. thanks a lot for your help.

cool! Now get a wireless card for it and check out the net from your couch

And don't forget to download that little app that allows you to change the screen to landscape so that you don't have to scroll too much...

sure thing. I used to have one of those pocket PC thingies. All I used it for was to go wardriving and gaining remote access to my servers during boring meetings

hey freak, when i connect my pocket pc to the internet, no graphics will show unless i click on them and select 'show picture'. do you know how to fix this? i already tried deleting the temporary internet files and cookies but that didn't fix it. thanks.

I seem to remember that there was a setting that said "Don't show graphics" in one of the IE menus... it's been several years since I had one, so I can't remember exactly where that was anymore... sorry.

that's the normal behavior.

regard to wi-fi card, if you are serious about that, then sell your axim and pick up a new one. wi-fi SD take up the only slot in x3, wi-fi SD/CF on x5 is fine, but then x5 is huge and ugly and should be replaced asap... *tho some likes that...

the menu looks exactly like what you posted, except there is no 'show images' option. i'm not sure how to get a screenshot of it like you did. processor: intel PXA250, processor speed: 400MHz, ram size: 64MB, rom size: 48MB, rom version: A00 (11110200EN) the pocket pc version is 3.0.11171 (build 11178).

i fixed it. there was a hide images button on the bottom toolbar that i clicked a few days ago. i clicked it again and now the images are showing fine. that was the problem...i'm such a dummy. thanks for your help.

there are a number of freeware screen capture utilities out there, I have one that's like 4 bucks. Resco softwares that came with the axim (not sure about x5) can capture it too. check your start/programs/ to see if you have a Screen Capture icon.
