Hi Guys,
I have an interesting question for all you guys with server rooms.

What do you do to organize your extra small equipment, I am really looking for ideas for what to do with all the extra cables we have laying around. Do you hang them? roll them? How do you store them? And after that expand it to “other” things.

I use a big chest-looking tool box with many little individual drawers...

ohh btw when i say extra cables, I mean as in whole cables, I have like 50 cables just stuck in plastic bags on shelves

I was thinking along the way of a pegboard of some kind my self. My biggest goal is something so easy no one will have an excuse not to use it. lol I know the chances of this are slim

Sorry, but there are so few new threads these days, one has to make the most out of those that present themselves

anyway back on topic

I try to keep anything that is not used either out of the server room, or neatly tucked away in a dedicated cupboard. Sometimes an old server rack can in useful for that.

Hi Guys,

I have a new office all to myself!

It's about 8 feet by 7 feet on the 'inside' wall of the IT Department so there's no direct outside light...

so I covered over the window to kill more light and to stop people looking in. I have the main light off and just use a desk lamp to light up the writing pad and keyboard. It's very relaxing.

I have my own air-con too!

As for cables, etc, I drilled a couple of standard shelf bracket into the wall. One's for mains leads and the other is for patch leads. Open leads dangle over the bracket and packeted leads just get pushed over the end.

The Support guys have several old server racks for all of their odds and ends, bits of PC/server, etc. It's in a separate store room with PC base units, monitors, keyboards, etc, but they're so disorganised they have no idea whats new/good or old/crap.

Fortuantely I don't have to touch that sort of gear.

Regards
Peter

I lined one of the walls in my office with stackable clear plastic draws a couple weeks ago. It's worked out well. Most of the clutter is gone now, and I can actually see my desk. Since they're clear, I can tell at a glance where everything's at.
