Hi all,
when i connect to internet by dialup from windows 2000 and xp, i can not ping to this pc from another pc unless i stopped connection to internet. i have a LAN, i can only ping from the pc's on the subnet.

pleas help.

Hi Aziz,

do you mean you can't ping over the internet to that PC? It could be that the ISP is blocking the ping and/or return packets.

If you mean that you can't ping over the LAN to that PC then I'd say that the PC is sending the return packets out to the internet rather than onto the LAN. Have you got a local default gateway set on the PC?

Hello Stranger, haven't seen you round here for a while...

I was in Scunthorpe last month - wife did a parachute jump. We stayed at the travel lodge and went bowling just outisde the town centre.

Aziz - I have seen similar before when Ive been PPP'd into crypto boxes and connected to my LAN as well - not sure why though.

I know when I connect to a VPN I have to uncheck a box in the TCP/IP settings Advanced --> General, 'Use default gateway on remote server', otherwise I can't surf the net. maybe to internet connection has something similar that prevents TCP/IP communication on the LAN.
