Author Making a DVD

I am transferring VHS videos on my computer in order to make DVDs. The latest Nero lets you take the .mpg files and make vcd and vcds, but you you can't take your .mpg in MPEG1 format and make a DVD. You can make a DVD but you need the DVD structure (.VOB files). What do I need to take a .mpg file encoded in MPEG1 and either burn it right to DVD or make the .VOB file structure so I can burn the DVD using Nero?

Deja,

If the DVD ends up being too big (say 5GB), instead of shrinking it, is there a way/program to split the DVD into two DVDs?

Which leads to another good question. I've noticed post notifications have not been sent to me as of lately.

Since I got access back onto the forum from my normal locations, I have also noted that I don't get any email notifications.
