Hi,
I want to call a computer (via telephone) by using NetMeeting. Everything is fine, but NetMetting requires having a gateway. How can I find this gateway?

I want to chat with me friend using NetMeeting (NetMeeting is installed in my friend and my computer) and the Telephone numbers (without connecting to Internet)

Thanks

They are normally talking about your internet gateway; i.e. the IP address of your path out of the building. The other option is that you are required to use a modem pool and the gateway is the server with the modems hooked to them. You did not say which operating system. Assuming that you have netmeeting 3 it should have asked you about your connection type the very first time that you used it. You or someone else has set it for LAN via the INTERNET use.

I have not used a dial up connection but here is what I would try first. Go to the netmeeting options, on the general tab look for the bandwidth settings button near the bottom of the page, select 28800 bps or faster modem, click OK and try again. If you have accidently checked modem pool gateway then click on the advanced settings button and uncheck use gateway. If you never get there then you need to change/add to your basic internet/commnications options.

For a dialup you probably need to go to the control panel, select internet options, go to the connections tab and click on add to the right of the dialup and VPN window pane.

The network wizard will start, and you will have the option to add a dial up connection for a private network. After that is installed then the Netmeeting options should give you a way to select your new connection.

By the way, on 4/2004 Microsoft released a downloadable version of Netmeeting 3 which can be used on win9x and NT 4.0 systems. It already comes with win2k and XP. If anyone needs it go here

Hello,
In the "Directory Settings" of the "Options" Windows of NetMeeting, which Directory name we should write? Do you know a free Service?

Thanks

I thought you only wanted a point to point session. A directory server is for several people. I am sorry but I do not know of any public servers. Here is a FAQ which will give you some tips.
