marines successful

| me? I dunno... 2004-04-30, 10:15 am |
| Yes, the american marines are successfully retreating from falluja, a city where george bush said there were a very small number of armed thugs holed up.
is this the beginning of a successful retreat from iraq, or just a continuation of the successful retreat from vietnam?

| damned if you do and damned if you don't as usual. Meanwhile terrorists are too stupid to just let them leave and attack them further. Maybe they fear the ex-Saddam loyalist general even more.
Why don't you just it drop.

| There will always be sympathizers of terrorists and dictators around the world. Maybe next time their target will be Canada, then I bet this clowns attitude would suddenly change... | |

| If Canada fought in Iraq they would have lost their one tank in the battle. Ya that's right they only have one tank. They would surrender just like the french. | |

They must have three or four at least . . . not sure how many of those run, though.

you attempt to attack john kerry on my thread? fcuk you
he can only work with the information he is given, and given the contempt for the truth that runs rampant in the bush administration its not surprising that congress and senate members are having to regularly reassess their position on an ever increasing number of issues.
with regard to the retreat from falluja, I think it should be expanded into a retreat from the middle east in general. transfer real authority to the u.n.
you say I am trying to provoke?
describe the ramifications of the bush gang's decision that america is intent on building a pipeline from iraq to israel, followed by the prompt imposition of censorship in iraq.
the cnn spinning of a hostage release into an escape will also bode well for the lives of the next batch of mercenaries captured in iraq, or anywhere else for that matter.

azimuth,
actually, determining the ramifications of zionist provocation in iraq is probably beyond the extent of the open mindedness you are capable of, I will spell it out for you...
132 american dead.
and more to come, this war is just starting.

Eh? | |
| azimuth40 2004-05-02, 2:02 pm |
| Oh I am so excited to be gifted with two of your messages. I must print them and press them between the pages of a favorite book.
No need to spell anything out to me, I am a veteran of Viet Nam. I understand the politics of nation building and why it generally does not work. Anyone dumb enough to become a puppet either does not have what it takes in a free election or becomes a dictator to prevent free elections.
U.N move in? ha they can't even keep their missions open without abandoning them. I have zero faith in the U.N. and as a body its days are numbered. Look to NATO as the next growth power broker.
If the U.S. packed up and left today the U.N. would let Iraq rot. You say it is about oil O.K. Qaddafi is being set up to replace Iraq's contribution. That should give you ammo for your next rant in case you missed it on A.J. propaganda channels. Although you should wait until webmaster solves his traffic problem so that more members can enjoy your return from the last couple of months of self imposed exile.
I just often wonder what drugs you are on but if it is just simple caffeine you should lay off. No matter what happens over there you always switch to the opposite position even if it is different from your position the day before. If you think your methods are not obvious to many you are wrong.
As far as your Zionist rants I could care less about your personal demons. If the discussion was about the most recent INTERNET worm you would figure out how to get the word Zionist into the conversation. I guess you will stop when you get the sudden urge to buy rat poison, ball bearings, paraffin, Karo syrup and quantities of lawn fertilizer. oops better stop don't want the NSA snooping around.

| I am all for solutions that work, but where is the history that the UN has for bringing about peace and freedom in response to the world's major problems? So many people are talking about the UN. Where has this UN been? If the UN had existed during the Nazi era, would it have eliminated Hitler? Did the UN bring down the USSR? How will the UN bring about peace in the Middle East and bring down radical Islamicism? If the UN were the answer, I would advocate its predominance right now. I would hope that diplomacy can provide answers, but when the enemy wants to destroy you, what is there to talk about? At least the Soviets could be negotiated with. I never thought that I would miss the USSR. | |

thats exactly the way the iraqi's (and palestinians) see it, and its exactly why americans will continue to be successfully killed in iraq until there are no more americans there.
americans have lost any legitimate claim to be a people that can be coexisted with. you enslave and colonize populations, strip away legitimate self determination, impose proxy regimes and extract the local wealth. the iraqis see this, the people of the world see this.
the show 'Salvador' isnt an exact parallel, but its close.
it has been said many times before, if you can begin to behave like decent human beings, the impression of americans as a group will greatly improve in the world.
by deferring to a gang of spoiled little brats whose parents failed miserably (bush rumsfeld etc...) you only alienate yourself from the rest of the world.
not many people regret the demise of the soviet empire, the surprise for you may be that america is being ever increasingly held in the same fear/contempt.
the same poll that gw is using to say what a good guy he is for sending an army to iraq
also shows that a vast majority of iraqui people want the americans to leave, and to leave immediately.
if your friends refuse to leave your house when you ask them, then are they really your friends? if they start killing your family members when you try to evict them, and they argue that they are 'protecting' you, do you believe them?
ps, it must be remembered that saddam hussein was not removed because he was despicable, he was remvoed because he was no longer a controllable puppet, the primary objective of this entire war in iraq is to reestablish a puppet government that will do whatever washington dictates, and lets not mince words, washington doesnt give a hoot whether the iraqi people live or die.
this war has nothing to do with freedom OR democracy.
by transferring legitimate authority to the u.n., whatever interim government takes control in iraq will not be immediately discounted by the arab world as america's whore, under any other scenario, it will be, and nothing will change.

You are very naive. People do not respect kindness. They respect power. Of course the Iraqis aren't our friends. We are at war with them. And it doesn't matter what the Iraqis want since they have no power now. We are there, and we will stay there until we get what we want. As for being America's whore, Saudi already has that position.

thats true, but for how long? I'm sure you have also noticed that the arabs are working diligently to change that. It really is starting to look like gw is going to loose an already existing and stable oil source as well as the prize in iraq...

| I think that most Arabs are hard working people who just want to live their lives in peace and freedom. People are people. The media always focuses on the bad guys, the tyrants, the terorists. Their is one thing that concerns me, though. According to what I have heard, Islam opposes democracy. If this is true, the premise that all human beings yearn to be free may not be entirely true. I don't know enough about the subject to have an informed opinion. | |

Islam doesn't oppose democracy, but allowing religion and religious leaders to have complete control over a country does. All people want to be free, sure, but those in power are always loath to give up their influence. Same kind of thing that happened with the Christian church in the Middle Ages.
Yes, I am sure that most Arabs are hard working people who want peace, but after America invading Iraq and its unconditional support of Israel and of course, the torture photos recently, you'll have a hard time, I would bet, convincing most Arabs that we are not their enemies. They just don'thave the power to do anything about it.

| Arabs are very strange people; but Islam is a very straight-forward religion. Most of its followers just happen to be Arabs. And these Arabs just happen to have the world's largest oil reserves.
Unless we're all blind, there's a striking resemblance between what Bush--and whoever runs his brains—is doing in Iraq and what Hitler did half a century ago to the Jews in Auschwitz.
History repeats itself –it’s just that we’ve got b-52 bombers and advanced murder-machines today.

Apart from Gitmo bay, there aren
t really any concentration camps, and even there they aren't being gassed. I think the Bush-Hitler comparison is a bit much. We're even comparitively free to poke fun at the Bushes without ending up in prison.
| 2lazybutsmart 2004-05-06, 12:33 pm |
| Yeah. free to poke fun at them eh. Well that's not what those people in those torture pics would think. And I don't see why the death chambers of people gassed to death is called a concentration camp, and that which its inmates are beaten or raped to death isn’t. If death was an inevitable choice, I'd say the former method (gassing) is more humane. This is happening to people –just like you, in case you’re wondering--, and I don’t find the least bit of humor in it.
If there’s anything you want to do for those people, just make sure you don’t vote for bush this time.

You are mixing things up here. Nazi Germany was a totalitarian state . . . their citizens were not free to criticize their government whle ours are, for the most part. The torture victims in Iraq are not citizens of America and have no say in what goes on. And of course people are being beaten to death. Hell, this is war, do you think the soldiers are there to plant flowers and sing nursery rhymes?
I didn't vote for Bush last time, but whoever wins the election, I doubt if much will change in Iraq. If the soldiers leave, the whole place will erupt into civil war until another dictator takes power and can control everyone (probalby through the same means as Hussein used). If they stay there, then they will have to enforce control in their own way. I suggest that the Iraqis just get used to it.
| 2lazybutsmart 2004-05-06, 1:41 pm |
| quote: The torture victims in Iraq are not citizens of America and have no say in what goes on
“in what goes on”? in the raping, torturing, beating, abusing, and killing inflicted on those people. They don't have a say in that, do they? But you do, is that right?
quote: I suggest that the Iraqis just get used to it.
Get used to the chaos, (and again.. I repeat) the killing, beating, raping, and torturing right? That's the message you're sending out to the Iraqi people. "Guys and girls... get used to this cuz we ain't leavin with empty pockets"
Don't you hear a calling from within... Don't you have a sense of humanity to let you see once with your heart? I personally don't believe having another person in the Oval Office would change the current state of Iraq -from indiscriminate murder to some sort of a ceasefire. The situation down there is what we call "beyond-salvage". And this isn’t an error in Bush & Co’s books. They need time. Time! This 30 June thing is all bullshit. They need time to fill their pockets before someone blows the whistle too loud and wakes us all up –from our nightmare.
Americans are great people, but when I see someone like you, sometimes I thank God that I'm not an American.
One thing I know for sure is that your words don't represent the ideas of millions of peace-loving Americans in our world today.
I just hope somewhere down the road, you feel the life in you –the humanity in you.

thats a bit shallow, the first concentration camps werent even populated with jews, at least not as a result of being jewish. it took years to progress to the extremism of extermination.
Also, and perhaps more importantly, hitler was democratically elected. what he did in the process of diverting germany from a democracy into a totalitarian dictatorship is vitally important to understanding the numerous and very real parallels between the bush administration and hitlers crew. also of relevance is the relationship between hitler and mussolini as a lens for looking at the relationship between bush and sharon. many people also overlook the threat that is posed by the publicly admitted fascist leanings of sylvio berlusconi in italy.
to discount the similarities between modern political leaders and those of the past is to hobble ones understanding of where we are in relation to where we were, both of which are vital in garnering a reliable impression of where it is that we are going.
