| Oops, I mean managing the boss's email..
Okay, I know what he wants done, but I really think Outlook alone can't do it, what he wants is a robust database that will take a lot of setup and input.
He wants to have main categories, like "Imports", Domestic, etc. then subcategories for each, like "office operations", Containers, etc. Then he wants to be able to search and sort for, say, all the email messages from "Joe Jones" relating to Imports Containers and have a list of just those emails that pertain to that--without having to save each email to three different files. Like, maybe, using keywords as identifiers; but to be able to filter out only what he wants based on specific criteria. That's a database, but does OUtlook provide that, or does some third party vendor do that? Is it even possible with emails?

| Amazingly, you can do all of that in Outlook.
He can categorize his emails by clicking on an email, select Edit, select Categories..., and then click on the categories he wants that email to be listed under.
When he wants to do a search, he needs to go to Tools, select Advanced Find. He can search for key words, filter by people, filter by category, etc.
Before you tell that joker how to do all of this, ask him for a raise.

Actually, I don't get to TELL him how to do it--all his email comes to me. This is the guy who never turns on his computer.
Anyway, I think I've got it--through the Rules Wizard, I can put everything into folders based on keywords contained in the subject or body, and then when he wants to sort them, I can sort them by sender.
I didn't know you could do that using criteria in the BODY--I knew you could with the subject and the sender. LEarned something new. |
