I got my flag up

And, I don't give two hoots for political correctness. In fact, I give two fingers to it.

It's also Shakespeare's birthday:

The game's afoot: Follow your spirit; and, upon this charge Cry God for Harry,
England and St George!

Er, He killed a Dragon. He ( if he existed at all )was possibly Palestinian, He is also the patron St for Malta and a few other countries.

Happy St Georges day Bearing, and all the other English. I will be having a Chicken Tikka Masalla and a bottle of Pilsner in celebration of our 'revered' St.
I'm Suprised Blair and his minister for propoganda and Assimilation hasn't done more to mark the occasion.

Ah, I never realized that Dragons were a problem in those parts. But I'll drink to pretty much anything, so Happy St. George's Day and what not.

Isn't it ironic?

The Mayor of London, ole King Ken 'imself goes and provides £100K for St Patrick's day celebrations in London, and bugger all for St George.

A pub landlord applies for a special license to mark the day and is refused; by the very same burghers who allowed his special license to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Taxi drivers in Milton Keynes are told not to display English flags for fear of upsetting their "foreign" colleagues.

Watch this space next year, when St George's day will be replaced with St Tony's day, and moved to 1st May.

It seems like being English is no longer possible, nor allowable

You need licenses in England to celebrate holidays??? Sounds ridiculous. You should fly your flags if it pleases you, they can't arrest the whole damn country.

Please include the other four boroughs with that. They don't do it either. Nor does Jersey or the whole tri-state area for that matter.

And while they are at it lets change the name of Trafalgar sqare and Waterloo station, to something nicer, less offensive. God forbid we offend the French.

All of them heretics.

Jokes apart, my point is that St. George is not a regional icon. Yes, he's the patron of England, but he's also the patron of Catalonia and Portugal, I believe, and of countless cities, towns and villages throughout the Christian world (catholic, othodox and protestant alike).

Maybe celebrate was not the best word to use, I didn't mean it as official observance or something. However, the fact is that today many George's, Giorgio's, Jorge's, Georg's, Georgios's, Gheorghe's, Gheorghi's -- to name a few variations of the name -- gather their families and friends to celebrate. That's all.
