Friend came over, his Windows XP in his laptop wouldnot activate. Apparently he traded his palm for an ipac and while installing with tech support from palm and later from hp they screwed up his laptop to a point where he was told to do a complete restore. He came to me because his contact info was very important. I was able to get his info in safe mode and copy it to a cd, and opened the cd to make sure the info was in the cd. I was able to view the info with an application he had in his laptop from palm. However after the restore and installing the palm software the application to open the .dat file does not appear. The help support from palm, I can't understand them, they claim I lost all the info. I know the info is there on the cd, I can see the Kbs, I just can't open it. D:/palm/user/adress/address.dat can anyone help me, the info is very important?

Its in a cd, which is read only, and I get errors: "wrong parrameters" when I try to open with palm desktop. It won't let me download to harddrive, when I try it ask me for the cd, so I can't change the extension. Palm Tech are of no help. The palm os application I use before to open is no longer in the drop down menu of available applications to open it. Excel, notepad and others give me the wrong parameter error message.

If it's on CD it will definitely be read only, you will somehow have to downloads it onto a read/write media and change the attributes.

That is my problem. I can't get the cd to export the data file to my hard drive. Any suggestions on applications that can help?

can you put it on a normal PC, change the attributes and save it to some kind of flash media?

This is my biggest problem. When I try to put it on my harddrive it ask me for the cd when I open it. I need some application or some other method to transfer the data from cd to harddrive.

you can just copy and paste it from the CD to the hard drive. or just use notepad.

I tried copy and paste method, however when I open the folder it prompts me for the cd. The notepad states too many parameters or incorrect parameters.
