Good job knocking out 911 in the city Friday! I saw it on TV all the way from Killington, Vermont on WPIX 11.

What's next to screw up? How about routing smoking complaints to Bloomberg's home number?

You're confused?
I'm on the wrong side of the planet.

Google sez:
"NEW YORK -- A day after a data-entry error temporarily shut down the city's 911 emergency line, Verizon announced that a supervisor would be required to oversee future work that might affect the system. The system shut down Friday night after a Verizon employee making service changes to a bank's phone system accidentally rerouted 911 calls to the bank, Verizon spokesman Daniel Diaz Zapata said Saturday. "We have immediately altered our processes to ensure this type of situation does not reoccur," he told The New York Times for Sunday editions.

The employee, who was not identified, was working alone when the accident happened. Zapata said the employee would probably not be penalized. It was unclear how many 911 calls were placed while the system was down beginning at about 7:20 p.m. Friday, officials said Saturday. By 8:30 p.m., calls had been diverted to the city's 311 information line, and both police and fire officials said the failure apparently did not lead to any fires or crimes going undetected. Full 911 service was restored at about 9:40 p.m."

Knocking out 911 service in 3 out of 5 boroughs qualifies as more than a "boo-boo" to me. This is strike two for Verizon. (Strike one was the phone failure during the black out)
