Does anyone have experience with Follett software? Here is the situation: The Follett software suite is for libraries and card catolog shit. The two computers who use it all the time will once in a while get a communication error trying to access the DB which is on a central server in the library. Also the shortcuts they have are just point to the central server where the .exe file is stored. I called the company and they said it could be a NIC, cable, or switch issue. They are running directly to the outlet from the NIC.

The cabling could be bad but it seems like it would affect the other network programs like IE, or mapped drives, or Network Neighborhood. Anyways what the tech guy told me was if there was any comm problem even if it was for a second, it would cause the error with the program.

What should I do from here? Check the NICs, cable, what else am I missing?

I worked with it a long time ago at a High School library that I supported for a bit. I believe the database then was of a BTrieve variety. That may not be the case now. The Follett Software company seems rather protective of their software, so likely the would be your best resource.

Document what the communication error is and post it here. Also a little bit about the type of network it is, what the server is running, the clients, etc.
