I am trying to configure my Westell DSL modem so that i will be able to access my pc outside. I would have to access the external port and forward it.

Unless anybody has any other idea...I am using DSL Westell 2200 modem, O/S= Win 2000. and Verizon put me on a private network (192.168.x.x)making it difficult for me to access my system.

i already installed the software (VNC)and of course i can access it from the original system that it was installed on but nowhere else.

Can someone please assist me with this matter?

P.S. these were the instructions that i recieved but i am confused:
1. u have to get the router's EXTERNAL IP address
2. OPEN the port 5800 on the router to be accessible over internet
3. u must FORWARD the port 5800 on the router to the 5800 port on your local machine: usually 192.168.0.100
