| Hi folks! My coworker is having problems installing Win98 on her PCs at home. She receives error messages pertaining to two system files: DBLBUFF.sys and IFSHLP.sys. Do you all have any suggestions to what may be the problem or how to fix it? Thanks guys, Psugak | |

| What are the messages? That the files are missing, or corrupted, or what? Is this a new install, or is it a reinstall after a reformat, or what? Is this from an OEM disk or from some other source? | |

| Messages = corrupt or missing files
It is a reinstall.
I have many windows98 discs and i get the same errors with all of them.
I get the errors BEFORE i actually try to reinstall the O/S. | |

| You need to force the install - easiest way is to blow away the old installation and install to a freshly formatted disk. | |

| Yeah, I was going to ask if she had been certain to completely uninstall the old version, and then to suggest that she go ahead and reformat the hard drive. It's a pain, I know, if you've got a bunch of stuff on, but those system files being corrupt before the install, that's fishy. She should install only on a clean drive. | |

| Could it be that the HD has been compressed to save space.
If so you need to uncompress to be able to upgrade.
If there is no valuable data data on the disk just partition it and format and then do the setup.
