| I was looking at another forum and MANY people had problems with SUS.
We tested it on our network for a few months and had many problems. Only 80% of the clients were receiving the updates. It added a high amount of traffic to our core servers. And I didn't like the neccessity of manually approving updates.
I can't remember how we set it up, but I seem to remember you have to have SQL running on the back end. We installed MySQL. Or maybe that was for reporting purposes. I can't remember.
I ended up setting up our GPO to set automatic updates to automatically install at a set time every day. I also set it to run the install 20 minutes after someone logs on if the computer wasn't on during the scheduled time. Since then, we haven't had any problems.
I would only use SUS if you have limited bandwidth to the internet or if you have a need to manually approve what critical updates will be installed. Otherwise, just set Automatic Updates to automatically install and also set an optional time if the machine was turned off during your normal scheduled time.
Hope that helps. |
