Faulty IE and no control panel

| Hello.
I'm working on a friend's computer that has Windows ME on it. He is unwilling to let me reformat so I have a couple of problems I need to deal with. One, his internet explorer shuts down at certain times, error messages pop up, and some links dont work. Is there a way to uninstall and reinstall IE. I cant even see what version he had. Also, we cant see the control panel. I can open it but I cant see anything even though it says there's 35 items. Does ME allow a repair to be down without reformatting the entire hard drive? Somebody Please help!

| In addition to the virus scan run a spyware/adware detector on it. Most of them are free downloads. | |

| I've found that, although I like the search& destroy much better (seems to be a better cleaner than the others) you should also run at least one other afterward; the search and destroy will just not catch everything, and neither will the adaware. As a last resort, because reading the logs requires a LOT of patience, hijackthis does a good job of identifying what shouldn't be there. But if you don't know how to read the logs, find someone who does, or else you'll end up removing something you want to keep. |
