Author Where are "Forum rules" posted
curiousgeorge

I've seen moderators say certain things are against Forum rules. And to read Forum rules before you post.

That's great, but I did a search for "Forum rules" and it didn't give me anything.

So where are these magic rules located becasue I don't find them on this site.

It's called Terms of Use and it's located in the lower left-hand of this page.

Although I would say that posting in the adult forum would allow you leeway to say whatever you want.

I think this may cover what CG is on about, from the same link

Thanks all. I already read the Terms of Use.

A moderator said one time that the "Forum rules" stated that this website encourages you to promote your own sites. I didn't read that in the Terms of Use, so I thought there was another section for Forum rules.

I was just curious.

I think not, genuine question with answers on topic.

I know that's fairly unusual round here, but we can do it sometimes.

Since I suppose you are referring to a conversation we had, here it is since you don't seem to be able to find it for yourself:

quote:
9) Drive traffic to your site by simply posting to our forums. Yes, it's that simple! Just register to become a member of our site, then edit your profile and create a signature with a short description and a link to your website. Then every time you make a post on our forum, you are promoting your website because your signature appear in every post you make. The more posts you make, the more traffic you can generate, and when people notice many quality posts from you, you will gain respect in our virtual community.

Now this was so long ago that I can't imagine you are still hung up on that. You need to let it go, man. This is not healthy.

You know, if Freak's a spammer, he does an inefficient job of it.

Most spammers here do the pidgeon method of promotions: dump on the windshield & fly off. Freak stays around, answers questions, gives away material & makes himself available. That's not the way to get rich.

Since he only has icertify.net and freaknotes.com in his sig & never really brings them up except to refer people to free resources therein, I would say he's really not interested in spamming the forum.

I only landed at icertify because he gave good answers to questions others brought up, so I went into the links to see what else he had to say. I never felt it was pushed on me.

I was just trying to clarify what's allowed and what isn't in the forums. Some moderators edit posts for "spamming" according to the Terms of Use. Other moderators call it "self-promotion", which does, in fact, seem to be encouraged, although not listed in the Terms of Use.

I don't care either way because I don't have any sites to promote. It's just odd that the website has two opposite rules about listing your websites.

Freak- more power to you my friend. I didn't intend this to be a flame war.

I think the difference between spamming and self promotion is fairly important. On the one hand, we have people who contribute nothing, post their site address whether it matches the content of the post or not, etc... on the other, we have members who answer questions, create new, valuable threads, etc... and also happen to have a link in their sig file.

Glad that this was not intended as a flame war. I think that we both have better things to do Hell, you should write content for one of my sites!

I think the main difference is between members who contribute and have a history of posts vs a first time poster immediately posting links to other sites across the board.

obviously there are the areas in between but that is up to the moderators to make a judgement call.

If someone responds to a post with a post of their own that contains links to their site, either in the body of the message or in their signature line, if it's pertinent to the topic it's not spam. Just like if you ask for information and some company emails you the information you asked for, it's not spam. The ones who are guilty of spamming are the ones who start a thread with a link to something not intended to generate discussion, or who inject into a thread something irrelevant and not pertinent to the discussion. And, no, that doesn't include the silly little asides that creep into a thread, the jokes and such.

It isn't spamming when you google a subject and get the results of your search along with sponsored links. It is spamming when you open your mailbox and get sixty messages advertising viagra that you didn't ask for.
