They´re fast and affordable, but the overheating problem that they have just drive me out of my skull.

I have a few computers and they all have Athlon processors. Every now and then I have computers simply turning itself off out of the blue on me. Well, actually what happens is that I may be in the middle of doing something and all of a sudden the monitor goes black, as if it was in stand by.

At first I thought it could be the video card, but I´ve changed it for a brand new one and the problem is still happening. That makes me think that the processor could be overheating or something, although the a/c here runs at full blast.

Any ideas???

Is it a p4 system? if so check to make sure the Power supply can handle the load.

s the whole system shutting down or just the monitor ????
if just the monitor try to swap it out and see if the problem persists.

If you are truly worried about the heat issue you may want to add and extra fan in the back and maybe even a h-drive fan fits in the h-drive bay there are many variations and all are relatively inexpensive.

Good luck

It´s an AMD Athlon 2400+. The power supply is more than enough. It´s a 450W one! I am just using another monitor and waiting to see what happens. I´ll keep you guys posted!

Cheers!

I've been running AMD processors for years and have yet to have a problem with a processor. Are you sure your problem isn't coming from a defective Motherboard?

I experienced several Athlon processors with the same problems. They were in a highly dirty area and needed the heatsinks replaced with wider fins so they wouldn't clog as fast. try looking at that.

same experience here. Never had anything even close to what is described here with Athlon processors. Although I have to admit that I still buy Intel CPUs mostly...
