Author dlci question

Why is it that when configuring frame relay circuit that sometimes on the cisco router you are configuring, that when it comes to time to tell it what dlci you want to use, sometimes you have to use the dlci on your side that was given (the local one) and in other configurations, you have to configure the dlci that was given to the other side of the frame relay? I have noticed that for successful implimentations, sometimes I do have to give the frame-relay interface-dlci (local dlci) and at other configurations, I have to type in frame-relay interface-dlci (remote dlci)? Anyone have any ideas on this at all? I was taught that its always the local dlci, but in some of my impimentations, that is not always true. Thank you in advance.

Wrong forum, however...

I've never heard of anybody using the remote DLCI before in any mapping, could it just be that both ends have the same DLCI's? The local router has no comprehension of remote DLCI's, your command is simply telling it if you see this DLCI from the provider, use it - the provider worries about the end to end connectivity.

debug frame-relay lmi confirms which DLCI's you are receiving, full updates are once every 60 seconds so you may have to wait.

Have you ever taken this up with the provider, could they have got the documentation wrong?

No, dlci is not the same on both ends and Im sure the provider has it right. I have had this in about 40% of my installs.
