Hello all. I am wanting to remove all of my cat5 and cat3 cables from a building I am leaving, part of rental agreement. I was curious if anyone knew of a decent price range per cable for removal I should be expecting from people who will give an estimate. Anyone know? Also, if there is more cable, do people usually charge more or is it the same per cable no matter how many cables? Thanks in advance. I have about 300 cables in my building. Thanks.

I don't know about a cost because all the companies I've worked for do it internally. Is there any reason why you don't want to do it internally?

It sounds like you don't want to keep the cable. Just snip them at the wall jack and pull them through at the patch panel. It might be a dirty job, but it's not that hard. if you want to use the cables again, you just need a crimper tool and and punch down tool.

Hope that helps.

The National Electric Code of 2002 requires that all abandonded low voltage cabling be removed. It defines abandonded as not being terminated and labeled on both ends, and ready for use.

That said, you will probably get bids in the neighborhood of $2.50 per square foot. You may be able to get a lump sum bid of less than that, but remember that they will have to rent dumpsters and trucks, and disposal is an environmental problem.

I'm just curious. When you say per square foot, per square foot of what? building space you occupy?

That just seems extremely costly for such an easy job.

It is per building space. I know it sounds costly, but, based on my experience, that is probably what will be quoted. Storage, transportation, and proper disposal are usually expensive to the contractor. The sheath of the cable can't legally be put into landfills, and burning give off toxic gases. It must be burned in a proper hazardous waste incinerator.

Ahhh, I see.

The companies I've worked for have always done the actual removal themselves, then we find someone else who ships it off and disposes the cable.

Hello,

You have some strange regulations.

We just drag it out, bundle it up and throw it in the bin.

Having said that, we wouldn't normally remove any cabling unless we're doing a full rewire.

If some old acbling has been left in situ then it may be re-useable at some time in the future.

I agree, just look at the floor plan and drag it out. Simple...

Then either do it your own or get the contractor to do it.

Just plan for wireless network and only use cable for major connection.

Also, u learn how to setup and get the skills for WLAN

Simple, but not legal, like pouring your used motor oil in the creek.
