I wish someone would offer that so I can reach the 2 person minimum on the HOV lane.

hehe it's pretty crazy trying to get gas over here right now. had to wait in line at the station for about an hour last night...a lot of stations are out of gas completely and the ones that do have gas have a line about a mile long. yesterday down the street from me some people had an accident while trying to get to the gas station which made the line even longer
as bad as it is though, i wouldn't pay that ebay guy $35 to get gas for me

It is an odd situation, but apparently it is a lot more humorous when you are not in the midst of it.

Some gas stations are charging between $3-5 USD per gallon when the price less than 2 weeks ago was $1.49. Since there are no laws in the state about price gouging, the station owners can charge what they want and get away with it.

Lines for gas stations start prior to the tanker trucks arrival and waiting can take 45 minutes or so. Even then there is no guarantee for gas as the number of people out there hoarding is tremendous, bringing gas cans, old vehicles they don't drive, etc.

To top it off, the governor here does little more than pose for the cameras. She left the governor's conference to come back to Arizona to tell us that this 2 week old situation was not a crisis but a slight issue. Personally I believe she came back to fill up her tank.

Cheers,
TB

Wow that's really expensive.

Unless you're a Brit of course and then I'd say it was the going rate, we pay about £3.60/$5.73 for a British gallon which equates to about £3.00/$4.78 for a US gallon.

do you get the tax back on your derv, bearing?

then there's the other scenario:-

"ello ello ello"

"yes officer"

"you appear to have red diesel in your land rover, mr bearing"

"have i? oh sorry, officer. i do most of my driving off-road, and must have forgotten to check what fuel i was using"

No don't get tax back on my heavy oil usage.

I know plenty folk who run the red stuff occasionally, you can also use Kerosine(heating oil).

you find the peelers around here occassionally dipping tanks for the red stuff.

the problem here at the moment is laundered green diesel from the south. not only is the duty not paid, but the chemicals they use to remove the dye has blown a few engines (hence the number of 206s in the scrap yards - that and the boyracers).

You should had stayed in Brooklyn.

I'm one of the few who had a full tank of gas during the blackout. I had filled my tank the day before.

So why can't you get fuel in Arozona? Truckers on strike or something?

I wasn't even aware their was a gas problem in Arizona.

A gas pipeline that provided about 1/3rd of the gas for Phoenix sprung a leak 2 weeks ago. Repairs are expected to take 7-14 additional days.

Funny. I have it in the papers or on the 10 o'clock news. If so it's either got the tiniest article or the story comes on at 10:59PM.

I saw it on the nightly news from NY which comes on at 6:30 here in California. It must have been old news by 10PM in NY.

California dealers use of any excuse to increase prices has caused the price to go up 25 cents in two days and they are claiming it may go up an equal amount in the next week. Switching to ebonics "WE BE Pi$$ED" to say the least. Well I guess all the SUV's will go back up on blocks again.

I don't own an SUV. I don't want an SUV. I don't even like SUV's. They are nothing but oversized bricks with wheels that guzzles gas.

Now I'm 20 (21 on 14-Oct). I've been driving in New York State since I got my license in November 1999. I drive a 1991 Toyota Camry. There's nothing that I get more of a kick out of then when I see a 17/18 year-old girl driving a Suburban, who can't even see over the friggin' wheel with music blasting, 10 people in the car and to top it off talking on the cell phone at the same time. Then the even better part is, she doesn't have a clue as to why it costs her so much to fill her tank and why it costs me a fraction of what she paid.

Just my two cents.

It is the tiniest article, since it is more important to talk about mutant ninja squirrels taking down the NE power grid a week ago then it is to talk about this.

If she is 17/18 then she does not care as daddy or boyfriend is paying for it. Teenage girls cellular DNA tells them that credit cards have no known limit. (I raised two daughters)

Most SUV's out here are driven by women so say the statistics. Oh and Suburbans are old school, think shady mobile. Men normally drive little tiny sport cars or pickup trucks just in case they have to pickup some beer or something. You have to remember that out west a short trip down the street is 30 miles. We live in our cars; houses and apartments are just someplace to go in between freeway trips.

Hehe.

There is no reason why someone in New York City needs at friggin' terdmanous SUV. If you have a big family, buy a Van and get an insurance break (I heard they exist).

Oh yea and you're probably right about daddy or the bf paying for the gas. I wouldn't doubt it.

Everytime I'm driving and someone cuts me off, it's 99.99% of the time a WOMAN (on a cell phone)!

The kids around here seem to drive Ford Explorers and Jeep Cherokees because daddy/mommy can afford it.

Meanwhile, my fiancee and I share a car.

Mommy and daddy got me a bike and said I'm not allowed on their insurance. Cheers!

Most young couples share a car. Not surpirsing to me. Money is tight. Kudos to you for being about to work out a "balance of power".
Tarzanboy

2003-08-20, 2:41 pm

Who said anything about balance of power or working anything out? When she needs the car, she gets the car and I get study time on the bus (they have AC most of the time and usually I can get a seat with enough room for my laptop).

As for cell phone useage, it's about 50/50 here. You either have kids with cell phones talking to their crush-of-the-week/parents/friends or men/women talking to their kids/hubby/job/buddies.

Obviously we've never rode with MTA New York City Transit. Guess which subway car doesn’t have a/c?:

A.) The car with plenty of seats and no people.
B.) The car packed like sardines with no seats and everyone standing.

I can't imagine what it is like there.

Here it is hot, but usually dry and sunny with vast expanses of land (Phoenix alone, without including the surrounding cities is over 400 square miles in size), with a poorly planned and implemented bus transit system.

Well, let me tell you of the story of a man named Charlie
On a tragic and fateful day
He put ten cents in his pocket, kissed his wife and family
Went to ride on the MTA

Well did he ever return, no he never returned
And his fate is still unlearned (what a pity)
He may ride forever 'neath the streets of Boston
He's the man who never returned

--The Kingston Trio

Sounds like nothing has changed except the cost of the ride.

Historical inaccuracy!

There was no such thing as the "MTA" when the base fare was 10¢. Just to bust your balls.

hi Tarzanboy. i'm from phoenix but i spent 2 years in brooklyn and just moved back here to az in march. nyc is so much different from az that it can't even be explained. you'd have to go there to understand. very different way of life there...but in my opinion, arizona is better.
