| need more information,
Why
Have you got a new job?
Have you been upset?
Etc. Etc. | |
|
| Both.
Work pulled me back from study leave to be productive, doing password changes on hundreds of box's of kit - not the best use of somebody very close to CCIE, it's very frustrating.
I handed my notice in a year ago but retracted it as they put certain measures in place to turn the company round - one year later the company is even deeper in the s..t. I have had a manager change in that year, we have a massive personality clash and things just aren't working, my time is up!
They can't give me a role which will challenge me, I've found my first contract position which will give me more in 5 months than I would earn in a whole year - it's the step I've been planning for a couple of years.

| if there is a superior over your manager, perhaps you could raise the matter with them that you are not getting on with this person and have an ego clash and see if it can be resolved.
or, there are two ways to hand in your notice. you can either take a less-confrontational way and just forward the letter to your superiors, or you can hand it to them personally.
i had a personality clash with a colleague in the last place where i worked. they liked to volunteer me for stuff when the boss walked in, they liked me to do the work for them that i was better at instead of improving their own skills. i had a chat with my manager and things improved enough for me not to want to leave as badly. suffice to say, when there was lay-offs they chose me over her.

| Keep it simple and don't burn any bridges, just do a letter, saying how much you have enjoyed working here, but feel it is time to move on and develope in a different direction.
Do not slag the company or any individuals off.

Good luck by the way | |

| It is a relatively tame letter, I'm just waiting for formal confirmation I have the job, which should hopefully be arriving very soon. I had a close colleague look over it and he suggested taking out a line which included "your political pawn" ;-)
As for thecomons comments, it's at the stage where I don't want to stay, the company really is struggling when other similar companies in my area seem to be thriving. We lost an engineer last week, I'll be next and I know others who are all looking to leave.
Anyway, the letter's written, unfortunately he's gone out now!!! That forces me to go to his manager....
Now for the comical suggestions, somebody must have some examples of "colleagues" resignations.

| definitely remove the political pawn bit, also anything negative, it's not worth it just to make a point, it could come back and bite you in the ass | |

| I agree completely,
Leave the controversial and anger out of it.
You don't want to burn bridges. May help if the next job doesn't pan out the way you want it to.
Good luck !

This is quite comical - I am off to Iraq for the work, I don't have a gun but will have an armed escort.....no kidding.
Thanks for all the advice, the letter was a pretty non-descript, no political statements, but I am looking forward to my exit interview
Funnily I just found this site-
