New Rules in Formula one!

| Being a Formula one Fan since the early 70's,obviously watched the first two qualifying races for this year.
Ferrari, using last years car, on the pole.
Any surprises? ahem....no.(Schumi makes it look so easy..)
It is cool to see the new qualifying-races with only one car on the track. What i think is weird is the new "Gas-rule", meaning you can't gas up for Raceday, the same amount of gas you had on qualifying day has to be used on Race-day.
This will make every Race a two-stop at least, some of them a three-stop.
Then, if you crash during qualifying, you will have to start the Race from the Box, not from the end of the field....hmmm.
Very interesting new rules indeed.
I know, there is F1-Fans on the Board here, what do you think?

| we'll have to see a few races to see what difference it makes.
Although for sure it will make the begining of the race more interesting, as the guys from the top teams only have to make a mistake in qualifying and they start half way down the grid. However we'll still end with the same teams at the front eventually.
|
| Yes it will be most interesting. As the president of the Bring Back Nige fan club I would love to see some more real racing again as opposed to the processions we have seen for the past few years. | |

| i like the single-lap qualifying. but the australian gp didn't really give a good idea on how the shake-up in the starting positions affected the race coz the weather bolloxed it up.
though, mclaren did a good job of starting towards the middle of the field and with the wrong tyre choices.
i still haven't decided which team to follow this year though. dumped my fondness of ferarri when they booted irvine, and the success of the team in recent years puts me off (why ksupport a team that, in all likelihood, is going to win anyway); my liking of mclaren has not returned since i switched sides to ferrari during the schu/irvine days; jaguar are bollocks; williams might grow on me again. looks like i'm with the jordan boys again.

| Decided I like the new fuel regs. If you start qualifying with 100ltrs on board that is what you start the race wit. It should stop a driver going out with only enough fuel for 4/5 laps and hitting a really quick time. Time will tell, but I think it is a good innovation. | |

| I agree, RussS.
In the past, we've seen in the qualifying Races just a few Cars on the Tracks, then, 10 minutes before it is over, everyone is going out ...
In the Training-sessions, they only showed the Drivers sitting in the Boxes watching... boring.
I think, this brings new excitement into the Race.
I actually enjoyed watching all 3 Days of Racing!

| haha - and I was gonna say "the russians are already there with Chelsea" I guess the russian mafia has to spend its bucks somehow ... lol
Anyways, back to topic .... hasn't the new regs turned the season on its head and given us some excitement once again?

| hard to tell. the only team that seems to have been affected by the one lap qually is mclaren (the scots bloke in particular).
the rise of renault, williams improvements and the mclarens coming through the field, seems to be forcing the prancing horses to prove they are still the best car this year.
rubens has been a let down this year. last season (even when he was forced to drive the previous year's car) he was in contention for most of the season, whereas this season he's more of an also-ran - competing more with bar and jordan than his team-mate or the other front-runners.

| I think it is right to say that they want o bring some excitement ot the sport. In American stock-car racing (NASCAR) they implemented the one-engine rule to help acheive parity there as well. I belive it has made the sport better. | |

| While I am a fan of controlled classes such as Formula Renault etc. worldwide the fan base prefers to have wider competition and likes to be able to identify with the makers efforts -IE. the V8 Supercars in Asutralia with the GM vs Ford battles, the British Touring Cars with shoot, dang near everybody there, the World Rally Champs with Puegot, Subaru, Ford, Mitsubishi etc. and even F1 with Mercedes McLaren, Ferrari and Williams BMW (even though they can't but a F1 car they take pride that the manufacturer of their car makes an awesome race machine. Unfortunately Andronda most of the world doesn't rate NASCAR as highly as Americans do. I think it is because they do not have an affinity with the drivers like the US fans. My favourite was Ernhardt and I think the sport is lacking without him, however I think another top charachter will come along. |
