| sorry here's a screenshot of the thing I received
Adieu | |
|
| I cannot see the picture clearly, but it looks just like an e-mail I received today timed at:- Mon, 21 Jul 2003 18:26:01
In the from field is:- ExamNotes.net
The sender is described as:- messenger@examnotes.com
## Note that the site is examnotes.COM, not .NET However, if you visit that site, it very much resembles this one.
The opening paragraph in the e-mail states:-
##
Cheatguides.com is proud to announce the availability of perfect compilations of exam questions and answers for immediate and guaranteed success on the real thing. Read them for a few days before taking the actual tests and be prepared with all the answers.
##
The only thing I disagree with in that paragraph is the word 'cheat'
However, I do have a concern about the site itself, examnotes.COM. On the front page, second paragraph is this:-
##
PAPERMCSE.COM - To be or not to be!
Papermcse.com will provide all the information to those who need that paper. All others who have a lot of time and money don't need to see this site.
##
Additionally, this site also has a pop-up, linking to certlinks.com.
One more thing, my name, my real life name appears at the top of the e-mail.
Now then, I am not about to be critical of this e-mail, or the site(s) it supports, but I would like to know if it is genuine or not. One hears of e-mail spoofing to catch the unwary, so better safe than sorry.
Finally, at the bottom of the mail is this:
##
This email is sent to members of ExamNotes.net in accordance with our terms of service and privacy policy. We work hard to find and negotiate the best deals on the training and certification products.
* Disclaimer: Examnotes.net is not affiliated with Cheatguides.com
##
masamune, don't jump into this yet. I have made that mistake before. Just a little clarification from the webmaster might shed some light on this.

| Yes I received the same thing today..Bullshite | |
|
| oh please, give me a break...
you guys act like this is a personal affront...
here is the solution.
set up rule, send emails to spam, set schedule to delete every day.
don't even want to see it? should've set up some nospam@xyz.com addy or whatever.
if this is indeed sent by examnotes, which appears to be, so what? the webmaster does not require you to acknowledge it, does not require you to click a OK button to close a popup, and in his previous posts, pretty much acknolwedge that this has to be done and really do not care if you read it or not...
so... one, 10, 20 additional spam out of a few hundred per day, big deal... if it keep the forum relatively free from intruding ads beside a few banner, than I am all for it.
the point it... what's this as if you guys have not seen the internet or have any idea how revenue is generated... or act as this is some personal insult.
hell... I am surprise you guys would actually read stuff like this... I am sure you guys have something more productive you can spend your time on. exercise your right to use your mail client and the delete button.

| at the end of the day, it's this kind of stuff that pays for the site. if you are not interested then ignore it / bin it. i do. | |
|
| Like I said, I was NOT being critical of the e-mail, or the sites. I was concerned that the 'From:' field and the actual sender did not match exactly. It would be easy to overlook this - the only difference being .NET and .COM
Maybe I am a little too sensitve, or maybe over-cautious, when I suspect a spoofed e-mail, but that how it has become.
I was trying to support masamune, in a round about way - no need to up sticks over this e-mail, but I was also seeking clarification.

| Yes, we sometimes send email advertising on behalf of our sponsors. Is that unusual?
But I'm amazed at how people choose to complain and scream murder over some email ads and at the same time they conveniently overlook that we also include a link at the bottom of every email we send to "cancel the account"
That's right, if you just can't stand these occasional email ads from us, just use that link and cancel your account.
I mean what's easier to do: copy the screenshot of your outlook with the email ad and post it into the forum at the same time saying "webmaster, cancel my account" or simply click on the link that say "cancel my account"?
You are also conveniently overlooking the text in that very same email ad: Examnotes.net is not affiliated with cheatguides.com
We don't own these sites, we don't own braindump sites, we don't allow braindumps on our forums, we don't allow the sites that we have confirmed to be selling real questions from exams.
I can understand how people can be turned off by the name of the site cheatguides.com, but it may be nothing more that just a catchy name. I don't think they contain questions taken from real exam, no do I have any way of confirming it. I rely on the assurance of the advertiser that their guides don't contain questions from exams, only practice questions similar to the real exam and excellent explanations.
Personally, I would much prefer having sponsors like Learnkey or Cisco press or Sybex or Microsoft, but until such companies start sponsoring our site, we just have to accept other advertisers. One thing you don't see on our site are the banners that say "actual questions from exams" or "100% real questions"
Basically if you don't like any of the ads, you can just ignore or delete them. Some people find them helpful and thank us for telling them about some of the products that help study for the exam.
Finally, just like it says at the bottom of our email ads, if you just can't stand these email communications from us, you may click on the link to cancel your account.
About the links on our home page, "Papermcse.com", that link is provided by certclicks.com and secondly, the papermcse.com is a cool website where people discuss the topic of paper mcse. I suggest you take a look and read some of their articles first. It's not a braindump site but what appears to be an intelligent discussion. I checked that site myself and don't find anything illegal there. They don't sell anything no do they offer any braindumps.
Thank you for understanding.
PS. This topic has been discussed many times before, I suggest you search for old threads. The management of this forum may delete any replies to this thread.
To reply to the original poster, if you really want to cancel your account please do it any time you like.

| Thank you webmaster for your comments. I understand money sitution of the forem site, but there is a bigger picture then just money for this site envolved here. People that go to these sits CAN pass the exams with the material they get from the sites. Thay may not be as knowledgeable about about there field of study as someone that put there heart and sole into studying there subject matter, but they can pass. Today in my local paper in the business section was a article titled " Tech Workers Settling For Less" and it says Professional certification no longer carte blanche in the job market. One of the reasons for this is that there is a lot of people that don't really know how to do there job even though they are certified . This reflects on all of us, if an employer has to fire one of these cheat sheet certified people he or she is going to lose a little respect for the certification process. We by supporting this cut our on throat | |

| Good point, bu realistically, what industry does NOT have its fair share of people that arent as qualified as the should be? are there any?
Its just a fact of life, deal with it

| I posted some suggestions on how to acquire braindumps for free and my posts were deleted and replaced with fake ones.
Now I received the email today too.
Good night everybody. Good luck on your exams!
Hope I made a few of you smile and added a tip or two along the way.
Cheers! | |

| Can someone tell me where is this link that says '' cancel my account '' ? | |
| mindmesh 2003-07-22, 8:50 am |
| The only problem I have is that you are forced to cancel your account if you choose not to be spammed. That is rediculous. I changed my email address to avoid having to get spam at my main email account and I can't get an activation code sent. Frustrating!!!!! | |

| I like this site, it has a lot of good careing people on it, it has a lot of good information on it and as for as I am concerned it is the best sites of it's kind on the Web. This is not just the Webmaster's site it belongs to all of us, and there is something we can do about the financial problems of this site. We can try to get companies that we are aware of around were we live to advertise on this site so then this site doesn't have to depend on cheat sheet sites to get the monies to run this site. | |
