How do they make money?

| It may sound weird but I was wondering how do search engines like Yahoo, google, msn etc make money. They provide free email accounts and in some cases free web pages so where do these big names get money from? Yahoo and others also have good number of stocks in NYSE.. just don't get it. Also there are sites like our own EN and others that provide free study guides and other cool stuff which I really appreciate. So how does it all work? | |

| they get money from advertisements.. dont you notice all those freakin banners on angelfire, geocities, etc.. ?  | |

| OK I get that, but do they make enough money from those advert. to give away almost 5MB of memory to millions of users around the world for their emails. And what about free ecards? so many free services, we dont have to pay anything for voice chatting or video con.. I am Still a bit confused . But sure it's amazing enjoying all these free services, I mean who thought about it 10 or 15 yrs ago. | |

| The money they make on advertisement is far much more than the ones made by the so called big advertisement company. |
