I have a question for the U.K folks. Actually, my friends wanted to know. Does the Fu** has the same meaning there as here in the U.S.? Also, what does Bloody really means?
Thanks

As for bloody:

bloody intj adj :
generic English swearword as common as, and almost as offensive, strong, and vulgar, as fûck; used in all the same places as fûck but with not quite as strong a connotation. For example, like fûck, it is used as tmesis for emphasis and other effects, abso-bloody-lutely, ‘not bloody likely’. Also very, “this is bloody good”.

Info from here.

Hello,

as for the first part of your question...

it really depends what it means in the US :-)

Actually I'd always assumed that it does mean the same thing all over the world.

'Bloody' isn't so offensive now, it's merely used for emphasis, as in, "bloody hell!, Ruscorp looked it up in a dictionary!".

Having said that, if I used the term in front of my mother she'd pull me up about it and I'm 50+ years old!

The word F**k can be used in a few different scenarious. Here are some uses:

quote:
f**k (HAVE SEX) verb [I][T] OFFENSIVE
to have sex with someone

f**k noun [C] OFFENSIVE
1 an act of having sex

2 a sexual partner

quote:
f**k (EXTREME ANGER) exclamation OFFENSIVE
used when expressing extreme anger or annoyance, or to add force to what is being said:
F**k - the bloody car won't start!
Shut the f**k up!
Who the f**k does she think she is, telling me what to do?

f**king adjective, adverb OFFENSIVE
used to emphasize a statement, especially an angry one:
What a f**king waste of time!
He's a f**king idiot.
He'd f**king well better do it.

quote:
f**k all noun [U] OFFENSIVE
nothing:
Don't blame me, mate - I had f**k all to do with it!
I've had f**k all to eat all day.

f**k all determiner OFFENSIVE
Now that the wheel's broken, it's XXXX all (= no) use to anyone

quote:
f**k about/around (BEHAVE BADLY) phrasal verb OFFENSIVE
to behave stupidly, or to waste time doing unimportant things:
Stop f**king around!

quote:
f**k off (GO AWAY) phrasal verb OFFENSIVE
to leave or go away, used especially as a rude way of telling someone to go away:
Just f**k off and leave me alone!
He's f**ked off somewhere and left me to do all the work.

quote:
f**k-up noun [C] OFFENSIVE
a serious problem:
It's been one f**k-up after another since she took charge.

So as you can see it has many uses and meanings.

As for bloody(notice I haven't taken out any letters) as Peterd pointed out it is not an offensive word for most folk here anymore.

NB. To whom it may concern, please feel free to pull this thread if it offends, I haven't answered to cause distress but to answer the original question.

Yeh doesn't it mean Bogey over there, anyway here we go with Bugger.

It's a bit like this:

quote:

f**k (HAVE SEX) verb [I][T] OFFENSIVE
to have sex with someone

f**k noun [C] OFFENSIVE
1 an act of having sex

2 a sexual partner

But you pot the Brown instead of the Pink, did I explain that politely enough?

It can be used in the same phrases as f**k, but isn't as offensive.
