Some have probably seen this, but if not...a little comic relief for you. Being curious, I went to eBay and did a search. He is not kidding...

Get IT Certified the eBay Way!
Have you missed out on the easiest, most cost-effective way to earn a technical certification?

by Keith Ward
6/23/2003 — I feel sorry for those suckers who spent hundreds or thousands of dollars and hours getting their Microsoft certifications. Heck, I even feel sorry for brain dumpers who still had to pay the money and take the test. You all have missed out on the easiest, most cost-effective way to earn a technical certification and jump-start your career.

I’m speaking, of course, of eBay.

For the low, low price of only $9.98, you can get yourself an “Attractive and Impressive Diploma” (I know this because it says so in the description) from the Southeastern Institute of Computer Technology.

Now, lest you think, wary reader, that this is some fly-by-night operation, I’ll have you know that the Southeastern Institute of Computer Technology is affiliated with “The Holy Trinity college and Seminary, licensed by the State of Florida, Department of Independent Colleges and Universities.” Those seminarians know a thing or two about IT. And the single test you have to pass is probably every bit as tough as was legendary 70-240, the four-hour Windows 2000 Accelerated Exam. After all, the Institute exam is multiple-choice, open book, untimed, and can be retaken as many times as needed until you hit the magical 90 percent mark, demonstrating to the world that you’re a crack Windows administrator!

These sorts of deals don’t come along every day, so you must act quickly if you want to get your IT career on the fast track! Like the auction copy says, “The complete program is regularly priced at $99.95, so do not miss this rare opportunity to become a Certified Windows 2000 System Administrator, at this low price!” Rare is right. At last count, there were only about 50 of these certifications being sold on eBay.

If Microsoft isn’t your bag, don’t fret: Your expertise can be similarly demonstrated in (insert Sally Struthers voice here) Linux, Unix, HTML programming, Java programming, PC technician, Web master, and many others!

If you still need more convincing to jump on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, check out just three of the 10 reasons the Institute says you need certification:

Employers, friends and colleagues will respect your certification status.
Our diploma will look great on your wall.
With our courses you STAND OUT and receive immediate notice in the huge arena of people with computer skills. This notice will serve you well.
Shockingly, stunningly, amazingly, the Southeastern Institute of Computer Technology didn’t respond to MCP Magazine’s request for comment on this incredible offer. They were obviously too busy cranking out more Attractive and Impressive Diplomas.

I've gotten a lot of certification preparation books on ebay inexpensively as well - but I had to read and study the material. This is just another example of something that cheapens the real hard work that goes into studying for legitimate certs and degrees.

Every time I buy computer parts on eButt I get burned! I bought two 1GHz pentium IIIs and both were DOA! The prick wouldn't refund my cash. This was a $180.00 lesson well learned. "Don't buy parts off of eBay." I'll stick too PriceWatch because, usually, the prices are almos equall to any auction and the parts are NEW!

I buy a lot of parts from eBay. Some problems here and there although Pricewatch is a good place as well.
