Hmmmmm NFL Europe, I have a distant memory of Monarchs and Claymores but apart from that nothing.

Anyway I'd rather watch Aussie Rules than that shower of shite....

hello,

sometimes, late at night, when I'm flicking through the satellite channels (I still have the Astra and Eutelsat Hotbird gear set up) I find NFL Europe on DSF (the German Sports chanel).

I watch it when I find it but they do tend to concentrate on the German teams... obviously, I suppose.

Going back a few years, probably fifteen years now, I was the 'Sideline Co-ordinator' ,ie, I set up the equipment and ran the chain-crew, for our local amateur team the Scunthorpe Steelers. I even got a championship medal during the time I was with the team.

There was a big hoo haa a couple of years (Ok maybe 10 years) ago but the teams all seemed to have 2nd rate american and canadians, who couldn't make the first team squads in the NFL, so it kinda of lost it's appeal.

The trouble with American football is, it costs too much for the equiptment, all that padding and helmets etc. for it to take off with the kids.

The Claymores play in a stadium near my house but nobody goes to watch 'em. In fact I think they give out free tickets to schools and the like... but still nobody goes to watch 'em.

thanks for the input.

that is pretty pathetic when they can't even give the tickets away... I guess it is fully subsidized...

I wasn't paying attention at all when it was on TV so I didn't notice the size of the crowd.

NFT Europe is definitely 3 string stuff... CFL would be 2nd string... atleast we get the like of Jeff Garcia of SF niners from it.

anyway, it seem pretty sad...

wonder if any candian actually watch CFL... *ponder*

hello,

the first season of NFL Europe, when the London Monarchs won all of their games, it was said that if you paid for a ticket then you'd been conned. Apparently they gave away 75% of the tickets.

Going back a few years before that, when the Scunthorpe Steelers were just starting up, we played a version of Football that didn't need padding and helmets.

Each player had a 'tag' tucked into the top of their leggings and a tackle was made by pulling the tag as the guy ran past.

I presume it's the way that US school-kids learn the game without getting injured?

Since when did Footballers wear helmets?

I remember Gazza wearing a face mask, to protect his cheek. But never a helmet..

I did once see a fan with a helmet, he'd gone to watch the Wolves at the Molineux on his bike. I think he had to hand it in at the turnstiles as the old bill had said it was an offensive weapon..

I once had chinwag with Jimmy Five Bellies in a pub when Gazza was playing for Glasgow Rangers. All he seemed to be able to say was 'Meeeee maaaytes Gaazzzzzza MAN!'

Was very odd.

Would you be surpised to learn I live in a house that has pictures of John Craven stuck up on every inch of available wall space?

I'd invite you round but I only have one chair/cup/plate etc.

I went to a Frankfurt Galaxy game with a group of friends last year in Frankfurt. I would have to say that the fan base here in Germany is much larger. In Frankfurt, they have a larger tailgate party that starts 5 hours before the game, which is setup for the kids. This is our chance to see some Football, since we can not see the NFL during the season. Dont forget to watch Minnesota this year.
