Where did you get your User name from?
|
|
|
|
| kappagamma698 2002-01-10, 7:18 pm |
| My username is my number from my fraternity. Lambda chi alpha is the fraternity and kappa gamma is the chapter and I am the 698th member of that chapter (actually I am the 697th member because they did not give anyone the 666 number). Which gives you kappagamma698 | |
| darthw 2002-01-10, 7:22 pm |
| I'm one of Vader's hereto unknown illegitimate children. Unlike my half-siblings Luke and Leia, I chose the path of The Dark Side. | |
| YoungOne 2002-01-10, 7:31 pm |
| My user name is my married name. I have a thing for names, that is even in addresses etc I am very keen on 'well sounding' names.
Have you ever met some one new and asked there name, and it was a really funny name. It is difficult to stop yourself from laughing (although it is not nice to laugh about someone's name)
I am very proud of my new name.
| Deja-vue 2002-01-10, 7:47 pm |
| My User-name is Deja-vue because,you guessed it,i am having a lot of those Deja-vue "Moments".
Sometimes, when i am with People talking in a Round,i feel at times that i have been there before...Sometimes i hear myself thinking what the other Person is going to say or do...weird!
Have those Moments only about once a Month or so...but it is faszinating, when they happen!!!
And my name is Frank
Hmmm (I think PotatoHead is going to respond next....lol! couldn't resist on that one!)
Anyways,it is great to be here!
| Pavlov 2002-01-10, 8:50 pm |
| And this lecture really stuck with me:
Ivan Petrovich Pavlov was a Russion physiologist and experimental psychologist. He was professor at the military medical academy and director of the physiology department at the Institute for Experimental Medicine, St. Petersburg, from 1890. Pavlov was a skillful ambidextrous surgeon; using dogs as experimental animals, he established fistulas from various parts of the digestive tract by which he obtained secretions of the salivary glands, pancreas, and liver without disturbing the nerve and blood supply. For his work on the physiology of the digestive glands he received the 1904 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Using the same technique to create an artificial exterior pouch of the stomach, he experimented on nervous stimulation of gastric secretions and thus discovered the conditioned reflex, which has had widespread influence in neurology and psychology. He also demonstrated that specific areas in the cerebral cortex are concerned with specific reflexes and based on these findings a mechanistic theory of human behavior that found political favor; in 1935 the government built a laboratory for him. His chief work was Conditioned Reflexes (1926, tr. 1927). Basically he used dogs to study association - ring a bell - open the dog food - dog salivates -- eventually the dog responds to the ringing bell and begins to salivate - hence, the term Pavlovian response.
Aren't you glad you asked

where are you when i need you?

| Supertech 2002-01-10, 10:54 pm |
| I am certified by the Instrumentation, Systems & Automation Society as a Control Systems Technician Level 3.
I work in a high speed manufacturing facility. I do flow, level, pressure & temperature. I do mainframe to PC to PLC. I do serial, ethernet, Profibus. I do SCADA, DCS, fiber optics, machine vision, motion control. I love my job.
did I mention 100% tuition reimbursment and I get to ride my HD 300+ days a year?
| PotatoHead 2002-01-11, 12:15 am |
| Here I am Deja-vue, you were close man, I really have no clue where i got my name, LOL, I just tried to think of something different and i guess it worked. | |
| peterd 2002-01-11, 3:08 am |
| Hi guys,
Pavlov:
I prefer the Rowan and Martin explanation of Pavlovs experiment...
place a male dog and a female dog in a box, separated by a sliding partition. Ring the bell and remove the partition. It's amazing how quickly the male dog associates the ringing bell with seeing the female.
It's even more amazing how quickly the female dog learns to ring the bell...
kappagamma:
obviously we've all seen the films about college life in the US and have a basic understanding of the system, but I didn't know that you have 'chapters', etc. How does this work please?
I assumed it was just the name of the building that you all slept in...
As for user names, I think mine should be pretty obvious :-)
Regards

| The name says it all.
You can't figure me out.
| sibley 2002-01-11, 6:36 am |
| My name is Mulford Q. Sibley. | |
| richardwhit 2002-01-11, 6:38 am |
| Mines a tricky one for ya!!
Its my first name and part of my second name, bet you couldn't work that one out.
"richardwhit" is my alias for "serious" forums such as this, elsewhere, I am known as "Limping Chimp".
I got this idea from watching "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". (a brilliant film and experience for those who haven't seen it).
I love martial arts myself and have dabbled in various styles, mostly Jujitsu, but when I compare my skill to the stars of films such as this I feel somewhat inferior!!
If anyone wants to see me about to land on my head, check out my website http://www.ajjc.co.uk and check the gallery.
| dillinger 2002-01-11, 6:55 am |
| I took my user name from the famous John Dillinger of the twenties American gangster era, he was a latter day Robin Hood Who also ripped off the rich and gave some of it to the poor.
Pretty noble for an outlaw I thought.

| Sue3126 2002-01-11, 7:46 am |
| I enjoy the "uniqueness" of usernames. They tend to reflect creativity. My username is very boring (kinda like me). My name is Sue & 3126 is the first number I could think of.
I guess I missed the "Make a Great Username" class.... LOL

| Jeah, I hear that Jeff Dahmer only killed in self-defence also . . . | |
| dillinger 2002-01-11, 7:52 am |
| Hi Sue
You only have 4 post's to this user name so if you wanted to change it now you woulden't loose that much.
Let me know what other names you can come up with.
See ya. | |
| ace123 2002-01-11, 7:59 am |
| Hey dillinger I like your avatar
My name was the name I use to use to save high scores on game for as long as I can remember.I don't remember how I pick it.
| Gareth Leung 2002-01-11, 8:05 am |
| That's my name. | |

|
| R5D4 is the Droid with a "Bad Motivator"...
to Paraphrase
Uncle Owen, this Droid has a Bad Motivator how about that Blue One instead?
|
| SPID - Service Profile Identifier
Basically a fancy name for an ISDN phone number.
When I got my ISDN line installed a few years ago, I purchase 3COM ImpactIQ ISDN terminal (modem). It had this little software gadget called the SPID Wizard. The guys at work started calling me Spid after that, and the nickname stuck.
| Sh0tgun 2002-01-11, 11:22 am |
| Big laughs to R5D4 (I didn't know the droid name but I remember that line!). And to Spid too. If only you had used all CAPS for your name then I would have guessed
richardwhit, I liked the movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", so much that some friends and I came up with a related joke about it. For those who simply paper certify, we developed the term "Paper Tiger". It fits! So, someday look for the movie "Paper Tiger, Hidden Moron"!
I carried my username over from the one I usually use in computer gaming, which is ShOtgun -- always with an uppercase O (trying to look like a large gun bore I suppose). My avatar is a screenshot from Doom of a player punching at the crotch of a Cyberdemon. It gives me a laugh every time I see it.
ShOtgun is taken on this forum, so my name has a zero in it. I mainly use it since I can't think up anything better. I suppose in the gaming world, where a shotgun is a popular weapon, it makes more sense
OK, first one of you to suggest the ol' nick switch to Paper Tiger gets fragged!!!
| neomatsu 2002-01-11, 11:46 am |
| Ah lets see..."neo" is the main character of the movie, "The Matrix," you know, Keneau Reeves and "matsu" is the name of a wolf located at the Wolf Education and Research Center's (WERC) 20 acre enclosure on the Nez Perce Indian Reservation near Winchester, Idaho. WERC's mission is to study, to educate the public by taking one of the wolf's around the country (displell the white-european myths) and foster a greater awareness and acceptance of the wolf back into the wilds to help bring our ecosystems back to what they were before we began to destroy them...I am a big supporter of wolves, we could learn a lot from them.... | |

| curtise 2002-01-11, 2:11 pm |

| waxxman 2002-01-11, 3:00 pm |
| I play guitar in a band on the weekends. I have a tendency to sweat ALOT when I play. One night a girl from the audience came up to me during a guitar solo and was trying to mop away some sweat with one of her undergarments and told me I looked like a melting candle. Hence the nickname: Waxxman
I added the extra "x" just to be different.

My self and a friend decided about 9 years ago we like to go into business and tried to figure out a name.. so here is how we arrived at this one...
We are both Amateur (HAM)Radio Operators so we combined our ham radio callsigns
Mine is VE6FET and my buddy's is VE6LX so we combined them to get FLEXT seemed so simple at the time so now I use that as my handle here ...

It may look kind of weird but that's what it is.

| Shrink 2002-01-13, 10:15 am |
| Mine comes from my profession and friends of mine. I am a child psychologist and several friends of mine began calling me Shrink years ago. So when I began to get online about '94, it seemed like a good username and I've used it since. | |
| Drummer 2002-01-13, 10:55 am |
| I was trying to find something sufficiently generic. I did play drums as a youth and all the way into college. I sold my set in college so I haven't played since then. Would love to get a set again when I get my own house (and not a townhouse like I used to have in Atlanta). Maybe we could put together a band with some of the members of this board.
My name isn't that great but I managed to find an icon that fits perfectly and looks pretty cool.
| nobby67 2002-01-13, 12:50 pm |
| this has been fun reading this post.
Well I don't know where to start.
nobby is my nickname and it came about when I was working with my cousons a long time ago. They are plasterers and I was labouring for them at the time. They where shouting for more plaster actually shouting out muck up just a trade term. I was gone for some time so then they started shouting out every name under the sun Burt Harry Fred got the idear.
I just turned up with a bucket of plaster when they shouted out nobby. From then on every where I have worked I have been known as nobby. I suppose it could have been worse.
nobby67 the 67 at the end of my name is obvious the year I was born.
Don't be cheeky now not 1867 its 1967
| thecomeons 2002-01-13, 6:40 pm |
| i used to play bass and sing in this punk band called the come ons. i did a few sites and registered us on indexes and stuff. i always used the same username and password. much easier to remember. i guess it stuck.
the band? oh, the drummer went to oz and the guitar player started repairing pcs in the evenings. oh and the bass player got married. try a visit to http://listen.to/thecomeons, i think the music links are down but it will show shit-hot we were. not.

| bearing 2002-01-18, 9:37 am |
| Frank.....
During summer break from Uni, started helping a guy down the pub, who had a washing machine repair business(the tax man doesn't need to know).I went on to get my first cert..entitled 'replacing drum bearings', and that became my speciality, thus the name...
I've taken some of those skills into repairing pc's, and merged them with my electronics skills, so this is my tip of the day 'If it aint working hit it with a Mallet'.
The baggies are letting it slip a bit, but then again you didn't just lose in the FA cup to Cardiff like us......

| chodan 2002-01-18, 9:48 pm |
| Back in 95 when I first got online I was training for my first degree black belt in TaeKwanDo a Korean Martial Art.
First degree black belt translates to Chodan."Now watch someone from Korea come along and correct me. hehe"
So I picked that as my ICQ name and it stuck with all my friends and online associates.
BTW I am now second degree in TaeKwanDo and Hapkido "way out of practice though" and the name still stuck.
I also use it as my "stage" name for my music productions.

If I were to pick a new screen name, it would probably be something like BSD-bigot (read some of my posts and you'll see why ) or A-plus (a nickname some of my friends gave me when I got my A+ - most of them still call me that ).

| Got my moniker from one of my end users at my last job. He was always having problems, simple ones to me. One time I fixed his "invalid system disk" error, and he commented how I could fix anything, and started calling me "mrfixit". The next day I came into work and someone had replaced the name plate on my office door with one that read "MrFixIt". And the name stuck! | |

| This is real a good thread. My user name comes from the fact that I have lived here in nashville Tennessee for the last 32 years.
I came here because I was in the music business for twenty three years and Nashville was the music capital of the world.Like DRUMMER I was also a drummer with a 1960's band called LOS BROVOS and we had a big hit in 1966 called Black Is Black.

| Time to revive this thread. I'm a late comer to it, but it was really good and tehre are a lot of new folks since last post happened.
I grew up in Ohio and traveled quite a bit in my early adulthood and landed in the South, and I mean DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP south. I love it here and I love the climate and the people and the beach and the atmosphere and even the stupidity that is Mardi GRas, but only because it's a unique Gulf Coast phenomenon. My husband was born and raised in this little town we live in, but has done a little traveling. As deeply in love as we are, we still experience culture clash. He is a self-proclaimed redneck, not realizing just how smart he is. I am a Yankee to him, because I was raised north of "the line." I'm not really a Yankee, I'm really a midwesterner or a Great-Lakes-er, I'm not eastern enough to be a true Yankee. But it kind of stuck. At other forums I've been SFY, for Souther-Fried Yankee, but someone called me Yanqui one time and I liked it so I took it.
The cat picture came from a story about an oklahoma woman trying to describe to a Chicago vet how she wanted her cat trimmed. Some things just don't translate well. And believe me, Southern is another language!

| The sound of Fran Drescher's voice doesn't bother you.
You've watched the movie "Deliverance" and you're afraid to go on a camping trip. Ever.
For breakfast, you'd rather have potatoes than grits.
You can name at least 4 hockey teams.
You've never eaten Okra.
You wonder why people in restaurants don't talk as loud as you do.
You have never planned your summer vacation around a gun & knife show.
You don't have any problems pronouncing "Worcestershire sauce" correctly.
You've never had grain alcohol.
You are familiar with all the rules to Lacrosse.
You have no idea what a polecat is.
You don't see anything wrong with putting a sweater on a poodle.
You've never had bangs.(ed. note - OR if you do have them, they aren't several inches ABOVE the top of your head)
You'd rather vacation at Martha's Vineyard than Six Flags.
You don't have at least one can of WD-40 somewhere around the house.
You would rather have your son become a lawyer than grow up to get his own TV fishing show.
You refer to two or more people as "you guys" instead of "y'all".
You think more money should go to important scientific research at your university than to pay the salary of the head football coach.
You prefer a bagel over a donut.
You don't know anyone with two first names (i.e. Joe Bob, Billy Bob,Kay Bob, Bob Bob, Sara Jane)
You get freaked out when strangers in public talk to you.
None of your fur coats are made with real fur.
You don't know what a Piggly-Wiggly is.
You think NASCAR stands for the North American Society for...(something)
You eat fried chicken with a knife and fork.
Your idea of a perfect meal is "Lahbsta and Clam Chawdah."
You use the horn in your car more than once or twice a year.
Everything you know about the Civil War you learned watching TV.
You don't "reckon".
You're not "fixin" to do anything.

3. grits--over potatoes? Every time!
4. Yeah--our own, the one in Pensacola Florida, the one in Baton Rouge Louisiana, and the one in Biloxi Mississippi--honestly and truly!

7. Naw, Six flags.
8. Just say W. And nobody down here uses it anyway, it's Dales.

10. What's that?
11. Yeah, tastes just like chicken and smells just like fresh coffee.
12. Still waiting for the justification of the existence of small poodles.
13. ??
14. See No. 7
15. I carry it in my purse. What's THAT say about me?
16. Right now he wants to be a garbageman, so whatever he picks other than that will be a relief.
17. That's just gotten to be handy.
18. We'd just like one that can keep his pants on.
19. There's a difference?
20. Like Billy Joe, Bobby Joe and Betty JOe from Petticoat Junction which took place in New York State?
21. Well, only some of them
22. Coon--the only way to hunt.
23. Mom works there.
24. Moving out west
25. Guilty.
26. Cant stand either
27. Guilty
28. Well, that and I read books.
29. Guilty
30. Guilty.
So where do I stand? I think I have one foot on either side of the line.

| The last part is my last name Bedard. Many people misprounce it.
The prez part is a bit more to it.
I came up with Bedardinc my future company name back in 1999. Bedardinc "Internet Networking Company/Community". I am the president of the company of course and my brother was the vice president not amymore though he lost interest. The graphics currently on the home page are all credit to him. Got my domain back then too the first email I created was prezbedard.
Now I use prezbedard as a handle most of time.
the Prez part has more to it but I'm not going to analyze here.
Prezbedard is my name computers are my game

I thought it was pronounced Worster? However if you New Englanders would quit coming down south to NYC and pronouncing Houston Street incorrectly, perhaps we'll pronounce the strange Mass. town name Worchestor correctly.
