I take it both APs will plug into the same Ethernet network, or are you going to setup a repeater? Are these strickly access points, or do they do other things as well?

they are actually routers, and they have wireless antenna on them, one is from Dell and one is from Linksys...

i hope i answered the question

thanks in advance

i'm sorry, i don't think i answered the whole question.
i have it as the cable modem in pluged into the dell wireless router which has 4 ethernet ports, and i'm thinking to plug the linksys wireless router into one of the ports in the dell router (i have a long wire). i don't know if it works.

thanks again in advance

That should work. Just be sure to put the Dell and Linksys into two different IP ranges as far as the wireless end goes. Also use different SSIDs.

thanks for replay
but if i used different SSIDs i will not be able to use one of the access points, i need it to if i go to a place that dell doesn;t cover it, linksys will cover it, and connect automatically, and after reseach, i found that i have to change the channels in each access points, like make dell as channel 6 and Linksys as channel 9, and keep the SSID the same, but my question, how does the NIC know how to go to differnt channel becuase in NIC configuration, you specifiy which channel to you want!!!

i will try it and see, and tell you the results.

thanks again

If you specify the channel then the NIC won't know. If you have multiple APs with the same SSID but different channels then what you want to do is have your NIC autodetect the channel.

The reason that I said to use two different IP ranges and SSIDs is that both are acting as routers. If you could disable the router functionality in one or the other and have it act as just an access point then you could have both reside in the same subnet and SSID. If they were in the same SSID but used two diffferent ranges then you'd have to release/renew your IP whenever you switch APs.
