I have this UMAX Astra 1200s scanner over at Salem CyberSpace

The scanner works fine. The problem is the sealing material that holds the scanning surface up is weak and tends to fall off. I have to open it up each time and press it back on again.

Does anybody know where I can some of this sealing tape/material so I can strengthen the bond?

Thanks.

what glues have you tried so far?

I haven't tried any glue yet. I wasn't sure if it uses a special bonding material or not. What should I try?

Thanks.

read the labels. most glues say what they can and can't bond. some of the stuff melts plastics, so they are best avoided.

regular craft glue could do the trick, but if you are feeling flush you could try some of that nail-replacement glue. just make sure the glue is spread as evenly as you can manage.

Sorry to burst one's bubble, but the Astra 1200 S is an old, outdated SCSI-Scanner. Not worth fixing, you can find one new on E-bay for about $30.00.

The newer USB-models ( Visioneer 8920)are 300% faster, scan more colors, come with tons of Software ( Photoshop Elements 2.0) and are about $49.00 at Costco or Samsclub.

just my very own 2 cents.

I know its old but it does work well except for the scanning surface being loose. Its either fix it or no scanner.

no disrespect deja. you have great respect from myself and many at examnotes, but salem is a charitable organisation (and like many is fighting for community and government support to keep its doors open), the scanner may not be the best in the world, but to replace it could be the difference between having enough money in the kitty to pay a few weeks bills or close its doors.

sorry, i didn't realize that,thecomeons
To me, tinkering with somewhat outdated Hardware is too timeconsuming and not worth it.
I donate about $140 every month to several different organisations world wide and know, how hard they struggle sometimes.

my apologies, if offended.

seriously no offence intended. it's very easy to say thing like "get a new XXXXing mouse you idiot it only costs a few pence" or "you computer is simply not capable of the the work to demand of it", but prezzie is very committed to the organization, and it is obvious that he would rather commit a few hours to solving a problem that would mean saving the money required for that months electricity bill to keep the place open

Go down to the office supply store and get a roll of 3M (Scotchbrand) Poster tape. This is a heavy duty double sided tape designed to hold up those 36 inch size posters everyone wants to stick on school walls.

This is tough holding stuff and it tends to get even gummier with heat. It should do the job for you if I understand the need correctly. You are talking abut that white plastic cover that is stuck on the lid right?

I'm talking about holding the scanning surface on to the cover.

I'm going to use use GE Translucent RTV 108 glue.
