| Can anyone help me??? I spilt coffee on a laptop at work and now the keyboard doesn't work right. It boots up but at the sign in screen, it starts to flash. And when I try to type it will type an extra letter. For example, if I type an a, it will type ia. Any ideas on what to do now? I'm so embarrassed about this that I'm afraid to tell my supervisor. It's an older laptop, Satellite 4060CDT.

| You need a technician who knows laptops. If you're lucky, it can be saved. | |

| Set up the laptop with the keyboard at a 45 deg. angle. Pour a bottle of Isopropol Alchohol on the keyboard to wash out the coffee. Press the kets repeatedly to clean the contacts.
If this doesn't work, clean it up real good, take it in and tell him it broke. IT happens!

| if it is under warentee clean it so there is no visual sign of intentional damage and go there and tell them that the keyboard stoped working all of the sudden
or you could buy an external keyboard and do fine
i am pretty sure there is someway also to take off the keys and clean under them but not sure of the technique

Just above the F keys there is a strip that lifts of, use the end of a knife inserted under one end of the strip and lift the strip up. You can now lift the keyboard out, then you will be able to clean it as Supertech suggested by using IPA(Isopropanol).
This has happened to me on the same unit so I know it can be salvaged so good luck...

| First > PANIC is OK
If it boot up, backup all valuable data.
Then just like other guy said, setup 45 degree and let those coffee wash out.
Then unscrew the bottom and allow u to remove the keyborad on the top. (Detail - read the manul how to clean laptop keyboard).
Then u will need Alchohol to wash them in great detail, (Q-tip) and wait until it is completely dry..
Check all components and major area where the coffee splite on. If u luck it havn't tell your boss about it.
Good Luck | |

| Thanks to everyone who replied to my question. I will definitely give the cleaning a try. And I will let you all know how it turns out. Luckily, this laptop is hardly missed. It's an old one. But still, I'll have to cough it up when it comes time to quit. | |

| Your welcome Mr. fatchronos. I'm so glad that you are so entertained with my mishap. I like to post my questions here because everyone has been so kind to all my questions up until now. I'm still fairly new to all this and have learned a lot and am still learning. I'd rather ask then to never know. |
