...That advertise their sites as plain text messages in grey boxes and make their entries onto a pc with single pinging noises? I keep getting messages from one janitagirl with her site address and recently another one also. These keep slowing my internet connections shortly after they appear.

Try running AdAware on your system. Youcan download it for free, from numerous places and it does work.

What you are referring to is popup messages. I take it you are running Windows XP or 2000? If so, go to Services under Control Panel or Computer Management and find the "Messenger" service. Right-Click and stop it, and then Right-click and go to properties. On Startup type, click disable.

Shanghai,
I couldn't find where to stop my services except in pc management where there are loads of things I could possibly stop but not in one false swoop.

Jeff_j Black,
I have a number of programs in my free utilities mag. Pop up messages and adaware?
I should have a free program for such a thing.

Thanks for these. Feel free to reply.

AdAware's main home page through a quick searchtells me that their program is not free.

There should be a free version. Get it. It's a great great program. Die spyware scum!

Got a recommended link? I am about to do another 10 hour shift plus other distractions.
Jokes are fine but I don't like this (ahem!)

Stay well man...

I don't get it. What's the "joke"?

Sorry Boulware, didn't completely realise you were serious. It's just the way you said that there should be a free version and get it which I interpreted as being with a missing question mark.

Thanks for the link. I've downloaded Ad-Aware thanks to help from another thread I posted. 13 items were found and I have deleted them all. They were mostly cookies...

Hope no offence was caused.
