| My company is entering what I would call dire financial straits and management is asking for ideas on how to reduce costs.
My question is what are your companies doing to reduce cost and more specifically, what can IT do to help with reducing costs?

| Without knowing anything about your network its hard to say. But first thing you should think of how to reduce the amount of money you send to Redmond every year. Encourage everyone to drop MS Office and use OpenOffice. Learn Samba and use Linux on every server you can. | |

| Remove every other light bulb and make sure the blinds are open.
Turn down the heat/ tell them to wear a sweater. Turn down the AC and say, "hey, if you think this is warm ..." alot and tell to drink cold water(preferebly from the fountain down the hall).
Drop the MacAfee and Norton and go with AVG from www.grisoft.com.
No more free coffee!(pretty unconstitutional, though)
Follow BlokWatch's example and try some open source product. Also, it's not always needed to upgrade certain applicatins, i.e. from Office 200 to Office XP.
For consumables, like toner, ink, paper, etc try shopping around a little. |
