Re-Installing Windows

| I have a question. I am wanting to do a re-installation of my OS, which is Windows 98. I was reading an article that said sometimes it's good to do a OS reinstall at least once a year if you have added and removed alot of programs, if it seems to have slowed and if it locks up alot, which is yes to all of these. It stated that sometimes the registry can contain a lot of useless software stuff that can become corrupt and stuff...
I have a Compaq Preasario, which came with a Restore/Recovery CD.I was reading a article about re-installing the os, but If I have a restore cd, how would I go about using it. I remember reading that this cd will restore it back to factory brought state, and if any hardware has been added it will need to be disconnected or removed before you use the restore cd. I am wondering can I do a re-installation another way without using the restore cd. I have a license copy of Windows 98se that I have installed on my old computer which I am not using at the time, but the only thing I have for this computer is the Restore/Recovery CD. I have installed a CD burner, scanner, cable modem all on this computer and I am just wandering to do a reinstall, using the cd or not, how would I go about this. I feel I can do this, with the right information.
Any help will be appreciated

| Use your CD burner to back up anything you want to keep. Go to bootdisk.com or madboot.com and download an Win98 floppy boot image. Create the boot disk, boot the system to it, choose Start Computer from the boot menu(with or without CD support). Use FDISK to delete your old partition and create a new one. Unless you want to keep the original one partition thing going. Either case use FORMAT on the partition you plan on installing Win98 on. Reboot the system with floppy still in drive, have you CD in the drive, choose Setup Windows from the boot menu. Follow along, Microsoft will explain as it goes. |
