| hello to everyone...I have a problem I hope you all can help me solve...when i turned my computer on this morning the monitor screen is a amber color. I don't know what caused this, since last night when I cut it off, everything was fine. I am able to see all the graphics and everything, it's just this amber color. I have tried the color settings, but I am unable to do any adjusting. Do anyone have any idea what the problem may be and how or what I need to do to correct this. I have a compaq running windows 98se
any help or information will be appreciated.

| check the monitor lead is in securely, check the video card is seated correctly.
connect a different monitor if possible or connect the monitor to a different PC.

| Amber or yellow screen can point towards a problem with the blue video drive circuit which has probably failed.
To test this do as enforcer suggests. If everything is fine with another monitor connected then the problem is probably with the CRT, and a new monitor is in order. If the problem persists with the new monitor then replace the video adaptor card.
Are you able to test to component-level?

| thanks for the reply and information. I was thinking on that line, but also, I thought maybe to update the video driver. I was getting ready to download a updated driver to see if it was the problem, but I will also check the monitor connnections also.
thanks again | |

| changed my mind about downloading the video driver, since I was downloading from Driver.com. It couldn't be verified and I was afraid of getting a virus or something. But anyway, I did check my connection, I disconnected the monitor and then reconnected it back, and wa-la, it screen shows correct colors now. Must be time for a new monitor, cause I am sure it probably happen again
thanks everyone... | |

Nah don't go buying a new monitor, just make sure connections are always tight...
Glad too hear it wasn't an expensive problem...

| i remember when i had my first 2nd user computers. i used to unconnect and reconnect the monitor lead at the video adapter, and in the end bent some of the pins in the connector. if they are not broken they can be manipilated into position using a screwdriver or craft knife.
there is one monitor i have, however. came with a 286 that changes hue occassionally. it just a duff monitor. nothing can be done with it.
