| Hi guys, I am really hoping someone can help me out. I've got a user running W2K on a Dell laptop. Up until today he had no problems, now, whenever we try to copy a file from his C drive to another location it won't copy. It appears to copy but when I tell it to paste nothing happens.
This happens with ANY file/folder regardless of who is logged in. I've tried from a floppy, to a floppy, from a Network share to a network share, same thing.
I think there is a problem with the windows clipboard (although the functions work fine inside of word) is there anyway I can replace the clipboard WITHOUT having to do a rebuild on the machine? Or is there something else that I can try? Anyone seen this before?
My user is leaving for a week this afternoon, I have to have this resolved by then. Any help is MUCH appreciated.

| Hi ;
how are u ?
i read u profile and what u wrote about women in IT field . that was so interesting .
u wrote also that u have a problem in W2k copying file from location to location and that is from a partion to partion or even from a network share .
if i were u , i'll assume that some files are corrupted in my windows so first i'll try to install the last service pack for that windows . if that problem still then i'll try to repair my windows ( reinstall it on the old one ) i didn't mean a fresh copy cause u don't want to loose user setting .
restart the laptop with the windows cd then choose repair option ..
i hope to tell me what happen . and if u find a better solution plz write it to me
thanks .
by the way my name is Mina male 24 from Egypt , Alex.
i'm electronic and communication engineer and ...... u better read my profile if u like ,
wish u luck

| Have you tried to move/copy the files from DOS? | |
| mrdelete 2003-04-23, 5:51 pm |
| No i think even if he can move or copy his files from dos that will not help him . and that is not a dos problem cause he will able to do anything in dos | |

| Sorry for not getting back here sooner folks, been nuts around here.
I was able to find a work around for the user so he's happy but still going to have to redo the machine I think.
MrDelete, I did try reinstalling over top along with the latest service pack, same problem. I know it's W2K related and not corupt files cause I can connect to his machine via C$ and copy to my hearts content, so long as I do it from another machine. (which is what I did to get him working for now)
Mindmesh, the partition is NTFS, I don't have a utility that will allow me to try copying through dos.
Thanks for the help guys. 'Preciate it
