Have any of you seen this? I'm trying to migrate everyone at work from Office 97 to Open Office 1.0. Every time I uninstall Office 97, Windows gets confused over what the default mail and MAPI clients are. Both should be Outlook Express.

I've found the solution solution to the mail client probblem (run c:\program files\outlook express\msimn /reg), but am stumped on the MAPI client program problem. Any ideas? I've tried reinstalling Outlook Express, but that didn't do anything. All the affected workstations run Windows XP and Outlook Express 6.0.

I have had problems with MAPI and office/outlook many times before. Usually when installing office after the IE update and Outlook takes over.
One of the first things to do is to go to the programs tab under tools and make sure that OE is the default email client.

Thanks for the link. I had to run the msimn /reg command to get the outlook express default mail client setting to stick. That didn't seem to affect the MAPI settings though. I guess there must be some registry setting somewhere that sets the default MAPI client?

I do remember having to delete the MAPI dll before reinstalling once as for some reason it would not overwrite.
