I am curious how others find time to study when they have children. I find it extremely hard even with my wife helping. I am up sometimes late at night trying to study college and certs. Can't study at work to much to do. I enjoy being around them so much I find myself distracted when I do have a widow of time. How do you find time to study?

it's hard, and sometimes it seems like a no-win situation. waiting for the kids to go to bed, means the wife gets pissed off.

do the kids have any activities outside the house that your wife runs them to? i have great peace on wednesday and sunday when they are run to various music lesson (though sundays will soon be harder to deal with as swatting up will be harder when i am trying to watch the f1 )

No leasons yet. My daughter is 16 months and if you so fondly remember how much time they absorb. It seems like I will be burning the midnight oil for awhile. It is so damn hard on you when study that way. It semms your mind does not catch this stuff when your beat tired.

make sure she gets plenty of fresh air during the day, she'll go to sleep a lot earlier and for a lot longer then.

I stayed up late once I put the kids to bed, I also stopped at the library on the way home for the odd half hour, it took a long time for me to get CCNA'd and its going to take a while for XP MCP. Its tough but at least your wife is supportive. Its hard not to get frustrated when your trying to study.
Hang in there and good luck.

An 8 month old and a 3 year old. So I know what you mean. The only way I find is I go to the lib. after work then do some more when why finally get to bed. Also weekends a good specialy if you have someone that can watch them for you like a family member or close friend that won't charge you.

At night is the best way to do it if you can take the lack of sleep.

It's rough trying to balance your job, family, and training.

I quickly found I couldn't burn the midnight oil everynight and get up at 6 each day. I was exhausted in the evening and spent most of my time trying to stay awake. So, this is what I did and it worked great.

1. Get up BEFORE everyone else for me 5:30am
and study before you go to work.
2. Be in bed by 10 or 10:30 everynight so
you can be up before the damn rooster!!
3. Set aside time everyday for you to study.
For me, I'd stop at the library Mon,
Wed, and Thurs on my way home from work
I'd study from 5:30 till about 7.
4. SPEND TIME WITH YOUR FAMILY. For me,
once I got home it was their time. Then
if they went to bed and I had the
modivation ONLY then would I study.

You'd be surprised how much you can accomplish I know I was. Once you get into the routine you'll do well

Oh I almost forgot two important factors. . .
1. DETERMINATION - If you really want it, you can do it.
2. FAMILY FIRST - You get older everyday and your kids grow up fast. You can always take a cert exam, but you can't go back and miss the great things kids do while they grow up, so be there for them and your spouse!!

I copy a few pages of notes: from this site mostly, and then read them on the train going to and from work. My commute includes 45 minutes of zone out on the train. When I drive in I just listen to the radio make a call or two. The kids are young and demand attention. Sometimes I can read if they are watching TV. It's a struggle for sure. I'm not getting much study done. Better luck to you you other Mom's and Dad's

Hmmm, lets see. I have six children, ages 4,5,6,17,19,21.. Have a wife that is 13 years younger than me, should be MCSA in three weeks, currently taking C++, SQL, JAVA, PERL..
1) Put kids to bed.
2) Tire out wife.
3) Drink mass quantities of beer.
4) Read books.
5) Drink more beer.
6) Play on computer.
7) Contemplate life.
8) Have one more beer and a cigarette.
9) Go to bed, get frisky with wife.
10) Recover from slap and verbal chastisement.
11) Contemplate having another beer.
12) Go to sleep.
13) Wake up at 4:30am.
14) Contemplate phoning in sick.
15) Read more while on "john".
16) Drive 100km (62 miles) to college.
17) Wish I were DEAD.
18) Go through motions, pretend interest.
19) Wish I were DEAD.
20) Somehow, with herculian effort, overcome adversity, and actually learn something.
21) Drive home, want to sleep, wife requires something from store.
22) Go to store, rush home to get kids from the bus, do their homework, have dinner, play with kids, put kids to bed at 7:00pm.
23) Tire out wife.
24) and on and on

Make up a set of CCNA index cards so you can flip through them at various times throughout the day. You can keep them in your pocket so you'll always have them on you when you get a spare minute or two.

Normal except he doesn't have to go to work...That could add a lot of stress depending on the reason.
