I have 2 machines. One with XP Pro and the other one with Win2k Pro. They're both connected by a UTP CAT 5 cable. NIC cards are working just fine.

I created a workgroup and gave the machines common names like computer1 and computer2.
So far so good, but the problem starts when I click on one of the computers. I always get this message saying that either computer1 or computer2 are not accessible.

Trust me, I've done this a million times and never have I been stuck like this before.
How come when I open MY Network Places I am able to see both computers, but when I click on either one of them they are not accessible? And that happens on both computers.

I also get this error message: Logon Failure: The user has not been granted the logon type at this computer.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

Make sure you've enabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

Are you logging on with an account that has the right to log onto the remote machine?

I had a problem connecting a 98 machine to a 2000 machine & the good people of the Network+ forum here helped me out.

Have a read through this:

Everyone was very helpful, but Spid's reply ended my misery.
