Well Freak,
The reason I asked here is because the people in the forum come from a diverse background and varying levels of experience and/or expertise. You never know, someone could be a techie and dabble in ice cream!!
Hmmmm a CICT sounds great, if there is such a thing, I'll be the 1st to sign up!!

| Are you talking about a e-350 econoline with the freezer and little bell up front? or perhaps delivering fine frozen treats in a courier fashion? or maybe purchasing a dozen personal ice cream/sorbet makers on ebay and starting up "demigods, ice cream made for a god, but available on earth!"
I noticed you have hockey listed as a hobby; are you in a cold climate, like Minnesota?
personally, I would look into a franchise like a ben and jerry's scoop shop. they make pretty good money as long as your CICTs don't eat all your profit

| I can confirm thst ice cream is sold routinely on the streets here. Only this morning I saw a Cornetto dealer plying his seedy trade. | |

Actually my father is recently retired and he's looking into getting an ice cream truck.
And yes, it can get cold here in Michigan today's not bad though it's suppose to be in the 40's

Ah, a Red Wings fan, no doubt. Good thing you like hockey as cheering for the Lions, Pistons, or Tigers can be a somewhat lonely proposition
I lived in michigan for awhile and my recollection was basically 6 months of winter and 2 months each of the remaining seasons. This gives you 2-4 months of solid ice cream sales and 8-10 months of driving around town with a giant ice cream cone on the top of your vehicle
I guess if I were looking for something to keep me occupied and productive during my retirement years, I would look to something that I could do all year (or at least have something else lined up for the non-ice cream months.)
Aside from keeping busy, can you actually make any money selling ice cream that way? You have fixed costs in the van, coolers, and the like; you have operating costs such as maintenance on the van, gas, oiling the bell, etc.; and you have basically 4 months to pay for these things for the whole year. I'm imagining a graph where you compute the break-even point on sales and even if your profits are 300% or so, you have to sell a lot of bomb pops to just to get out of the red.
I personally like the orange popscicles with the white stuff inside! Wanting one now just thinking about it! Where's an ice cream truck when you need it? Oh year, I still have 18" of snow on the ground!

Actually a hockey fan. Don't get me wrong, the Wings have a great organization, but honestly I wouldn't move anywhere they didn't have hockey. I just enjoy the sport itself. And what a win the Wings had against the Kings!! And Stevie Y is back in the line up - of course just enough time to get in the swing of things before the playoffs!!!
And yes, the Lions and the Tigers well what can I say?? All of Detroit is hoping Mike Illich can get the Tigers on a winning road again He's the same guy that owns the Wings. He's dumped a lot of cash into the Tigers especially with the new stadium. It took him about 10 years to get the Wings going, so I say just give it time.
The Lions I'm convinced are a tax write off for the Ford family!!
As for the Pistons, well they aren't doing to bad, they're leading their division. |
