I pay $20/month for this:

quote:
Your download speed : 41190 bps, or 41 kbps.
A 5 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 116380 bps, or 116 kbps.

test to Los Angeles, CA

The bandwidth is still too expensive here.

I pay $49.99 for 1.5M/128k DSL. Verizon is my provider and Linkline provides the bandwidth.

No, prob my bad, I suppose you never really use KBps in any serial transfer. Just factor by 8 out of habbit when rough calculating time for FTP transfer, etc.

So that's what they meant by "get paid to surf the Internet"!

Comcast is over $50/month at this point and I haven't seen 200 KB/sec in a long time...(steadily slower as they add more donkeys like me to the node)

Mine's free! Perk of the job. I'm required to have Internet Access, so they pay for my Cable Internet.

But the price is right either way. Midcontinent Cable Internet runs $29.95 a month.

I pay $19.95/mo for 56K(ha ha) dial up. Cable is $59.99 w/out cable TV,$49.99 w/ cable(+ the cost of the cable) and DSL is $49.99. The bad part about DSL is using Qwest, the worst phone company around. I use home mostly for email and use the T-1 line at work to do most of my studyin/research and then email links to myself.

£13.99 for dial up at home.

Nothing at work (No blocks)

i am with Slinky, paying 59.99 (10 bucks more) for 1.5M/384k DSL. (Verizon DSL)
Sometimes i see downloads up to 280 KB/s, rarely will it go down to 70 KB/s.

How in the world do you get 1.5M/384k for only $59.99? I checked through Verizons website and they have a price of $89.95 for a business package. The cheapest I found was through Linkline (my provider) for $79.95. I sure would like to know how you get that for so cheap. Something smells fishy.

SBC(Ameritech) offers 1.5/256 in my area for $49.99 for residential. Their biz packages run around $100 for the same bandwidth, but they come with a handful of static IPs.

Ah I see, where he is (Long Beach I think) Verizon is both the ISP and the bandwidth provider. They used to be GTE. Maybe you are in a local carrier crossover area.

In my area they also offer 1.5m/384k for $59.99. So far I have stuck with the 784/128 for $49.99 from verizon in my area. While my IP has not changed in two years supposedly it is dynamic. Business static is 512/512 for $89 I believe.

I have been with Verizon DSL for about 3 years now, when they started out providing the Service.
Back then i paid them $199 start-up cost and gotten 768/384 for 49.99.
Recently, i called them on a Special they had, for only $10 more to double the download speed.I am only 1 mile away from the OC.
Then, i called them to get a staticIP address. They will charge me $79 for that.

If you want good internet service with a touch of irony, use Earthlink.

I asked Qwest (reluctantly, mind you) to hook us up for DSL. They said 'we service your area, but we don't service your area, yet' That just tells me that I was the first in the nieghborhood to request and they are going to wait for more before they do anything. Two weeks later my son called Earthlink, and they said 'no problem!' Got the modem in the mail hooked it up when they said go and all is good. Funny it's running on Qwest's copper. Spirit of service my axx! Now I want to go with cable so I can cut Qwest free entirely.

Qwest sucks. Their DSL modem I'm selling on eBay isn't even getting any bids!

I go through alltel.
768 down 128 up.
Don't tell me I'm getting ripped because alltel is the only broadband provider in this rural area.
At work we go through Charter Business Internet, we actually have a cisco 3524 with a long haul GBIC gigE module in it.
So we have gigabit ethernet to our provider. Unfortunately they throttle our speed to 4 megabit, but they throttle it badly I've hit 8 megabit before .
I'm the IS manager so no blocks for me.

My job allows me to live in an area that is designated for university students. (although no students live in the area I'm in, just university faculty and other county workers) cable service is provided for all the homes there. It is included in the rent...and the rent I pay for the area I'm in is very reasonable, actually cheap for what you get.
