The funniest part is, few businesses use 2K.

not that few. All my customers do now, for example. I migrated the last NT 4 server among my customers a month ago.

As a trainer, I have to keep up anyway

Well we're screwed with SBS 4.5. There is no upgrade path except SBS 2000.

Windows 2000 MCSA's have one upgrade exam to take and Windows 2000 MCSE's have two upgrade exams to complete.

Three more exams to sit this year, deep joy! As if the Cisco exams were not enough!

For the mcsa 2003 we have to pass the 70-290 and the 70-291 thats 2 exams, because in my case im going for the 70-228 and i also have the 70-210 so that means that besides of having the mcsa w2k i can also have the mcsa w2k+3, right. where do you see what exams do we need for mcse 2k+3?

i just finish reading the article, i saw the answer if you are an mcsa 2k you have to pass the 70-292 to be a mcsa 2k+3 and for the mcse you need 70-292 and 70-296 but because i plan to get the mcsa in 2k i only have to take 2 exams to be an mcsa sk+3 and mcse sk+3.

MCSA's sit the 70-292 exam to update to MCSA 2003.

MCSA

MCSE's sit 70-292 and 70-296 to update to MCSE 2003.

MCSE

Those of us who hold both certifications need only sit two exams to update the MCSA and the MCSE!

Even better!

With my customers I see close to a 50/50 split between NT and 2000 on the server end for those who are using Windows. Of course, that probably has to do with the fact that very few of my upgrades and new installations are to a Windows variant

Geeze, I am just about to finish my MCSE after working on this for a year and 3 months and now I have more tests!?!? WHOOOHOOO! I think not. Not for awhile, anyhow.

MS is moving too quickly. The company that I work for provides schools with database software and let me tell you, many schools are still on NT 4. Only now are we just starting to see some schools move to 2K. Many schools are still on 98 as a client.

Obviously, MS and technology will not stand still, nor should it, but statistically, Win 2K didn't latch on as well and as quickly as they had hoped. Eventually, I will move to 2003, but I am just looking forward to getting to the end of an already long road with 2K. Good luck to everyone!

I know, it may come as a shock, but IT related threads are actually what interest me and most of the people here

schools are not necessarily the market that MS is the most excited about. Clearly, their focus is on Corporate America, because that's where they can make the real money without having to slash their licensing fees.

6 months ago, my company was negociating a contract with another state, and one of the prereqs was that we had to be running MS BizTalk server... want it or not, .NET is coming and the sooner you get on the bandwagon the less painful it will be

not for long

What do you think is best, the 00 Gauge or the N gauge tracks for train sets?
captain

Oh I agree, in fact our company is developing, QA'ing and distributing a new, flagship product that is .NET, nevertheless, it kinda takes a little wind out your sails when you are right at the cusp of finishing something that has taken months of work and then you suddenly realize that you have more climbing to go. Phew! I just need a break after 70-228. A nice long Carribbean break!

I hear you, and I certainly agree with the Caribean idea

Last year I missed MCSA charter by about 100 people. Microsoft is giving "early achiever" status to people who complete the exams.

I see it as if you get it over now, you wont have to worry about it later. Although I too dread taking 2 more exams, it'll be good to know you wont have to test for a couple years after this one.

Now we just have to wait for the books to come out, although there is no ETA listed on microsoft's site.
