| We've been having problems with our PIII IBM Netvistas. On ocassion, we will run across a workstation that will be in a contunous reboot. After trying all known fixes, the only solution is to replace the motherboard. To this day, we can't figure out why this happens. We suspect that there is something wrong with the onboard video, but not sure. Anybody else run into this problem? | |

| IBM was a victim of the bad motherboard capacitor scandal. They were replacing affected motherboards no questions asked. In my experience one of the first symptoms is spontaneous reboots. Look at the motherboard electrolytics and see if any of the tops are domed instead of perfectly flat. Look for brown residue near the base of the caps. If so you have found the problem and IBM may fix them for you. Oh PIII are the right timeframe 24+ months ago | |

| I heard similar situation like that from my co-worker. They send to IBM shop and fix it. | |

| Our company must be lucky. We have about 1,000 P III IBM Netvistas on our network. We've only had to replace two motherboards so far. I haven't experienced the continuous reboot on our workstations. | |

it may depend on the batch and the environment. It is an electrolyte breakdown and hydrogen gas build up. I would imagine that they fail in warehouse/manufacturing quicker than in chilled office spaces. Some say it was only a six to nine month window tops before it was discovered. It is easy enough to check as the problem is very very visible. |
