me? I dunno...

I downloaded some software from a link provided on this site, the checksum didnt jive, so being naturally curious I installed it anyway.

shortly thereafter I began having problems navigating the site, I noticed a recurring http connection to 216.239.57.104 which is on a block assigned to google. I didnt think much of it until I realized that this connection was being made every time I went to url www.examnotes.net. navigation around the site also slowed to a crawl. I blocked the ip using zone alarm and carried on. much to my surprise, the connection kept recurring... although sometimes it would be a different address on the 216.239.x.x block, again it happened every time I surfed to www.examnotes.net.

I eventually used zone alarm to disable all multicast traffic and blocked the 216.239.57.104/24 subnet, this stopped the problem, of course the ratware is still lurking inside my computer somewhere, but at least its manageable. I'm not sure whether it was blocking the subnet or multicast that did it (I suspect multicast).

unfortunately my competence level procludes me from tracking the culprits, hopefully I can go throught this same procedure a year from now

it does seem odd that visiting here triggered the trojan.

just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not really out to get you.

funny how kids at a certain stage dont seem to register the difference between pudding and poop.

I never get over that look a puppy will give you while its happily chewing away on a big old turd...
