| I had an interview, as I said in another post but how long should i leave it as I was wondering if they had made a decision. I had an interview last friday, should I wait until tomorrow to e-mail (friday) they said they wanted to make a decision quick........I don't want to push it though, what would you guys do? | |

| Hi ya,
1 to 1.5 weeks should be enough .. i think.
Next time make sure you ask them about this at the end of an interview.

| yep good advice, I'd say about the same.
I take it you went direct rather than through an agency.

| Yeah the interview was direct, it wasn't through an agency. They said they wanted to appoint someone quickly but then again I applied over a month agon and just got an interview....I guess it isn't there priority but it is mine so I am being impatient.....I might e-mail tomorrow which will make it a week.
In the interview it was confusing becaue she said I could here that day (last friday) or the end of the week!!!! I thought the friday of the interview was the end of the week but I guess she means possibly tomorrow......I haven't slept properly since....

| Just chill dude,
Look the hard part was the interview..its over now.. u cant do s#%$ about it.
So just relax.
If its to be...it will be, else keep tryn.
If you dont hear from them by 4 tomoro.. give em a call... so that they know you are concerned about it.
Im kindda pissed, worried i guess!! I had a call from this recruit agent from Datacom, confirming if I still interested in the Graduate position that I applied 1.5+ months ago. Obviously I said yes, The dude hasn't yet call back for an interview.. he said he would get in touch...once they have further short listed.
And I know this is the only break im gonna get since no one gives a crap about you if you have no/ little experience.
Im just tryn to get more certificates to impress the emploeers... to be honest I dont wanna go with M$ path.. im happy with Cisco. But in these times.. employeers are looking for all in one kindda person. .. CRAP.
I wish i graduated 4 years ago.
But thats life for you.
So CHIlll,
and have a sound sleep...knowing you WILL.
Stay positive. | |

| Cheers Imran4sin, cheers for that mate. Unfortunately you can't really avoid the Microsoft path in one form or another. also I have found that all these skills they ask for are what they really desire. The job spec I went for was to support Microsoft Servers 2000/2003, Sun Solaris and Linux Servers. I didn't ask anything about Sun or Linux, just as well as I don't know much about them. If I get offered the position it gives me four weeks to swot like made about them!!!! | |

| I'd phone them rather than email - it gives you the chance to find out what they did or didn't like if you didn't get the job, and attempt to overcome any objections they may have had.
My last question in an interview is always something along the lines of "Do you have any objections which may prevent you from giving me this position" If they do I try and cover that objection from a different angle.
Hope you get the job. | |

| Cheers Mat P, I guess i will call her tomorrow but i will be s***ting myself. I guess by voice is better then e-mail I guess........think about that tomorrow....one thing in my favour is the fact I live about three minutes from the office | |

| better to call than email - cos email cold
and no harm calling them up cos it shows you are eager & interested with what they have to offer
& look at it this way the sooner you chase them the sooner you can stop sweating & move on to the next target

| I know how you feel Spides, can see where your coming from. I went for a technical support interview almost three weeks ago still no feedback called twice and the Lady says a different thing. A decision would be made in a week etc. Even called today and she said the would be e-mailing candidates on Monday.
I.T job market is like someone trying to play and win the lottery. Just keep your knowledge base up to date and keep trying for interviews. Best wishes

Yes, phone call is a great way to follow-up. Otherwise, Immediately after an interview send a letter - thanking them for their time.....mention that you will be contacting them by <date> and then make sure you contact them.

| I hate waiting for a response after an interview I dont think there is a definite answer to how long to wait, they say thay are looking for someone to start soon. So it sounds like they want someone with the experience and track record to start firing on all eight cylinders right away. But having said that, most HR departments have a mountain of cv's, e-mails, phone calls, application forms and the rest. Keep calling and let them know your situation and try to get an answer, even if its negative, at least you know. |
