Now all they need to find are the weapons of mass destruction, but don’t hold your breath.

I guess the American government will be a little more selective with whom they place in power this time.

Now that they found him they can put him back in power where he belongs. Right Me I I dunno? I hope they read him his miranda rights and treated him nicely, gave him one phone call and feed him 3 times a day.

Oh and Sexy Lexy lets not forget all the support he was given by the French, Russians, Germans, and Canadains.

I hope they put hm in front of a television camera so he can spend the next few months reminiscing about the old days and all the fun he had partnered up with rumsfeld, bush, cheney et al...

btw, I wonder if they could sub saddam for barf-o-claus?, maybe an arabic version?

this is going to cost bush more than he can imagine

He kind of looked like a member of the Grateful Dead or something when they found him. I don't think any WMD will be found, but all the same, this can do nothing but good for everyone involved.

It kind of tempts you to hand him over to some of those he tortured, eh?

I think he would much rather reminisce about the good days with the French Russians, Canadians and Germans. I mean after all they were supporting and partnering up with him up to the end.

We supported him a great deal more than than Germans and French ever did. But it doesn't make any difference now. Everyone here knows how I felt about the invasion, but it's done now. It can't be undone. The best that can be hoped for now is to make things as good as they can be made. The U.S. will put in a puppet leader to serve their interests, but they would be hard pressed to put in someone worse than they have already had. Let's hope for the best.

When you say it can't be undone, I am sure that you are not implying that you wish Saddam were still in power. Can't we just come together as human beings and be mutually supportive when the Saddams of the world come tumbling down. There are times in human history when it would be really nice when we can put politics aside and embrace our humanhood.

It is amazing that after spending millions on bombs to destroy underground bunkers his end comes from a dirt hole smaller than a potato cellar. I hope that free elections for the Iraqi people can get underway without candidates needing millions of dollars to run an win. The trial should be interesting. Whatever one's feelings about how this all started today is a great day for the Iraqi people.

No, I am not implying that I wish Hussein were still in power. But given America's track record in supporting people like him, I am afraid I cannot be optimistic. And let's not forget that we did invade another country at the opposition of world support. If another country chooses to do the same under the guise of national security, who should we be then to criticize them in the future? If democracy and national security were the real issues, we can expect more invasions shortly. But since I do not believe that they were ever the real issues at hand, I don't think that there will be.

I'd love to come together with others as human beings as you put it. But I can't help but think that this will do more to help America than it will Iraq. Will they get a real democracy or will be they be just another colony? If genuine elections were held there, I doubt many in the American government would be happy with the results. It is good that Saddam is gone, but I don't think having foreigners in control of another country will be in the best interest of those living in that country. Sorry.

Randy the Cynical.

I better scram now before starting another fight. Might stop in again in another 6 months or so.

I wonder if it will change tings for the common Iraqi people?

From the sounds of things he has not been running anything for the past few months. Iraq will not be much different today, there is still the issue of having a foreign Army in your town and land. The US forces just can not pack up and leave now that they have their Ace of spades. The country has been destroyed and it will take years to return to a state of normal life. I wonder if America will see this through? Or are they only after securing their cheap oil for years to come???

Am I the only one that heard a week or so ago on ITN and several US stations that one of the Iraqi military higher ups, that should know, said that they had WMD's. The republican guard refused to use them and they are buried in the desert. All are afraid to talk because Saddam was still loose and had almost god like followings of assassins.

I am a skeptic but it is still possible that WMD's chemical and biological type will show up. The guard really did just roll over after all the hype about them.

It was in elementary school where I was first taught that George Washington was the father of our country.

If our war against Iraq proves successful, then perhaps someday, maybe a century from now, the school children who reside in the New America will be taught that George W. Bush was the father of theirs.

Let's throw some gasoline on the fire. If I am a brutal dictator and I have weapons of mass destruction and I know that eventually someone's going to come looking for them, I'm going to hide them somewhere that they, according to their own rules, aren't allowed to look--places of medicine, places of worship, places of sacred import, cemeteries and such.

Under what conditions could the US, the UN, or the new Iraqi forces search those places for WMD's? Is there any situation that would make that acceptable, and if so, would such a search be acceptable when conducted only by certain people and only under certain conditions, like only by new Iraqi forces and only when accompanied by someone well-acquainted with the place, policies and procedures, like, for example, in a mosque, or around a mosque, when accompanied by a Muslim cleric of a certain level of stature?

Well, I will concede that the kind of death one suffers is a highly personal issue to some people, but I'll wager that being nuked to death will result in a death that is no deader that being shot to death. If anything, the nuke would probably vaporize you faster and cause less pain than being shot in the buttocks and dying a slow, embarASSing death. Like the Ozz said, thank god for the bomb!

I'm sure glad we have the ability to spend an additional 87 BILLION dollars on the Iraqi war effort. We just had that money laying around and it wasn't going to be used for anything else (not public education, not health care, not eliminating poverty in our own country, not helping the less fortunate in other countries). Colin Powell has admitted that if WMD's are ever found, no one will really believe they were already there. There will always be suspicion that they were planted (or the story fabricated) to justify this ILLEGAL war. Let me get this straight...we defied the U.N. and invaded Iraq because they defied the U.N. ...Makes sense.

While I agree with you about the money and I would have liked proof of WMD, I do not agree with your ending sentence. Everyone that says that never shows proof. What we did is defy 3 members of the security council who said that we should wait a little longer. The members never disputed that we had the right to advance.

The UN had already authorized it. The mistake the U.S. and Britain made was asking one last time "are you guys sure its OK' and then they said well maybe not. Thats like a cop asking is it OK to send in SWAT to get a hold up murderer even though the law is already on the books. Someone then says lets wait until we find gunpower residue on his hands.

While people say that the U.S. is arrogant and as the leader of the band I guess we have to take that, however others are equally arrogant. It has always ticked me off that other nations in the coalition have been slighted in this effort. They sent troops and for their comparative size their risk was equally as great. When the Italians lost their first troops it amazed me how few people seem to know how many nations were/are in the coalition. "Gee there were Italians there? I had no idea".

Then there are the Japanese even with a non-aggression clause in their constitution they still sent non-combatant personnel whom we now see faced equal risks compared to their assigned mission. The fact that this could occur says that world news in general is one sided while the U.S. and its press gets blamed for propaganda. Greater than sixty nations have participated yet only the non-participating security council members seem to be important.

The security council is not the U.N. It is just an inner circle that was needed during the U.N. creation to get the major world powers to sign on. Simply an idea to not prevent the mistakes of the League of Nations. It worked for crime mobs in the 20's and 30's so I guess it is supposed to work for the U.N. There are 191 member states in the U.N.

Sorry I tend to avoid these discussions but sometimes I can't help myself. As of two days before Xmas the coalition has lost 463 Americans, 53 Britons, one Dane, 17 Italians, one Pole, one Spaniard and one Ukrainian, in the war. How did that Dane, Pole, Spaniard, and Ukrainian get in there, must have been kidnapped and conscripted while vacationing in Disneyland.

The U.S. and 42 out of 191 member nations in the coalition or 22.5 percent of U.N. members. Doesn't sound very united does it.

also, I see you have turkey (among others) erroneously on your list. remember that turkey, supposedly a democracy, with around 95% of the people firmly against participation, has a government that has fallen prey to the economic victimization of the current u.s. regime. I suspect that the majority of that list where you attempt to mislead in suggesting a democratic will in support of the united states, are also erroneously included.

regarding the united nations, an overwhelming majority oppose/d this war and define/d it as an illegal act.

that there were italians involved is no surprise, they have an openly fascist government. when the prime minister of israel welcomes (as he recently did) a representative of a foreign government (italy) who has openly praised mussolini as having been a great and visionary man, and publicly admitted to being a fascist, then it is no surprise at all that there were/are italians in iraq fighting on behalf of openly fascist israel. it is no surprise that the openly fascist government of italy is also fully compliant and allied with the current u.s. administration.

how did the openly fascist government of italy get elected? silvio (mussolini) berlusconi owns 95% of italian media, thats how.

"I would have liked proof of WMD"
?????????????????????????????

This is the REASON we went to war! It wasn't because Saddam was a "bad" man. It was because he had WMD's and Iraq was a direct threat to the U.S. and had ties to bin Laden. After these turned out to be FALSE, it became "liberating" the Iraqi people. Is that our new role in the world? Liberating people from oppressive regimes while millions of our own people suffer in poverty with poor education and lack of health care? It was SO EASY for our government (Republican AND Democrat) to find that 87 billion when they can't find any money for our failing public schools. I'm just saying we need to clean up our own back yard before we go out looking for fights.
