Yes it does! Just find it a little funny a snowstorm on the east coast is top headlines. If it happened somewhere else it wouldn't be major headlines.

| Best of luck with the snow, but at least it is Christmas style weather. It's a bit hard to get into the Christmas spirit while still in shorts and t-shirts.
It is supposed to be around 77F here today, 76F tomorrow, around 71F Sunday, with it dipping into the 60s through the remainder of the week, with maybe some rain on Friday.
Cheers,

| I just got in from some shoveling. Man that stuff is heavy. I wasn't even cold. I came up with a way to ease the shoveling though. I chopped it up with the shovel and then it made lifting it a whole lot easier.
You are missing all the fun!!
| Ling663 2003-12-06, 6:42 pm |
| frightful but beautiful, i'm just south of you prezbedard (sp?)here in RI and it's still piling up and blowing around! no clue how much is out there, i never got outta my jammies today, what's the point?! i'll take care of digging out the car tomorrow to attempt a trip to the food store or just get the sunday paper >> don't wanna miss the Pats' game!! did the Fish get into town i wonder?? at least we have plenty of experience playing in this kind of weather! it's another SnowBowl! Let's hope we won't have to rely so heavily on Adam V's foot this time!
I'm even hearing snowmobiles go by, and i live in an apt complex in a very suburban area barely a mile from a good sized airport (not hearing any planes, that's for sure).
and a storm on the East Coast making news is not so unusual because most places on the coast, including us up here in southern New England (quite different from the mountainous areas just north of us), don't get this kind of storm but maybe once a year at most. It always did seem silly to me that our state can't deal with this kind of snow, when barely 2-3 hours drive north of here gets this kind of snow amounts and it's just another day.
supposed to keep coming down thru tomorrow, been over 24hrs already, and blowing drifts to 5-10feet! canceled my work christmas party too, guess nothing's open out there in the white world! so, nothing to do but surf the net from the cruddiest pc in the world (still using dialup, don't ask...), watch the kiddies' christmas specials (rudy will always be my favorite one!) and of course watch the Pats snowplow the Fish tomorrow, and watch the snow keep piling up!! sure is pretty!
| prezbedard 2003-12-06, 6:52 pm |
| I am usually the last one to do any kind of shoveling. I went out because I spent most the day just lying around after I decided not to open cyberspace today(I work the Saturday shift now). The exercise could do me good too.

I live in Arizona, which is great at this time of the year, but sucks in the summer. The jobs here, really don't fit the bill for what you want, the pay is moderate to low, while expenses are moderate.

Weird thing is all my computers were affected except this one.

| First off, congrats to Con Ed for not losing power once. This electric company sucks asre so that was a miracle.
Secondly I've been getting smashed since Friday. I sick of frinkin' shoveling my car out. It has finally stopped snowing in NYC.
Take a peek out my back room window.

I went to the "big city" Manchester. I took a lot of pictures. More people live in my borough twice over (and it's the smallest).

Man that looks nasty and here I am complaining about the idiot drivers in the first winter rain in So. Cal. People here just don't get it that summer road oil and water are dangerous. People are spinning out worse than on ice. Its only going to be 68F but that is probably a heat wave for you guys right now.

| Jumping in late here, but we'll get to about 70 today on the Gulf of Mexico. Then tomorrow night back to freezing, and warming again and rainy for the weekend. Merry-go-round weather! The flu made it through our family, the last two members (hubby and baby) are on the mend finally, but we were lucky it wasn't worse. My kids are hoping for snow this winter, but we just don't get any. Can you send some our way--I could use a vacation. I haven't seen real snow since I was a teenager! Our area looks almost comical to a northerner, with all the inflatable snowmen out in the yards. I'd like to fly north for about a week, get snowed in at a well-stocked ski lodge, go for a sleigh ride and ski a little, then fly back to the G of M for some spring. | |

I'll see what I can do. How about a nice picture of snow?
They actually had to call the national guard into Salem just over the bridge from me. The last time the national guard was called in for snow removal was blizzared of '78 when I was just 10 months old or so.

| I grew up in Ohio, where nobody not from Ohio really thinks we know anything about snow. But up on the lake (I just can't seem to stay away from the water!)we got snow! In 1978, my sister was driving to work about 7 miles away (and in that neck of the woods, it was almost unheard of to do so in good weather). The snow started falling so thick that she was going to turn around and come home at a certain intersection, but the visibility was so bad she never saw the traffic light that marked the intersection. It was working at the time, but it wasn't penetrating the snow in the air. Just beyond that intersection she slid off the road into the same snowbank she'd been pulled out of two days earlier--probably went into the same frozen wheel ruts she had created. It was about 5:15 in the morning when she went off the road, and she was there through the day and into the night, till about 1AM. One of our friends was listening to his CB radio base and heard the National Guard talking to each other on their way to a school to turn the electricity on there to use as a way station for stranded travelers. My sister didn't hear them coming, but heard them go past. She turned on her emergency flashers, and our friend heard the Guardsmen say, "There's someone back there!" They turned around and took her with them to the school and then back into town. 20 hours in an old VW Beetle, and she had recently gone winter camping and still had her sleeping bag in her car. When she got out of the car, she couldn't close the door all the way, and when we came back two days later to get it, there was snow up to the knob of the gearshift. She was fine, the car was fine, and the National Guard were our heroes. | |

We lived just south of Cedar Point. I was a senior in HS, and I worked at the same place my sister did, but my shift was afternoon.
(BTW Cedar Point was one of many subjects addressed in a PBS special, "Old Amusement Parks." I thought it deserved more attention than it got, because it really is a fabulous place, but it was cool that it was mentioned at all.)

I worked over that evening into the wee hours of the morning at a Giant Off Road Tire facility that had its roots in Akron at the time. Took 2 hours to get home that morning when it would normally take 25 minutes.

I've been there many times over the years. The Travel Channel had them included in one of their 10 best roller coaster park shows. The place looks quite a bit different now compared to what it did when I started going there as a kid in grade school.

I noticed that when I hit 30 everything started changing from my childlike perceptions. A few years past that, it's even worse. I almost harbor regrets that I've learned things that have caused that paradigm shift. Nothing looks as "big" like the world's largest ferris wheel, stuff like that. Still, it's a great park, and I'd like to get back to it with my kids soon. Got a 25 year HS reunion coming up this summer--we may have to make it happen.

| Forcast for Christmas day is 69 F and clear--kiddies ought to have some fun on the 4-wheelers! Great weather for a game of slo-pitch. Kids have been cooped up forever between flu and windy weather, and then Christmas shopping, they'll be glad it's all over on a good weather day! (me, too, come to say it.) |
