hi to everyone
I am having a problem that's got me somewhat confused. I downloaded a program called "Finale Viewer" that lets you view musical scores and listen to the music (piano) music being played. It also uses java applets. Now when I try to open the program, I get a message that says something like this "in order to view this page properly you need to download asnd install the following componets Microsoft Virtual Machine" Now to my understanding this program is already installed cause when I go to the add/remove and check with IE to see, it says it is already there. This program also says that all browsers need Microsoft's JVM 5.0.3167 or above.I am trying to figure out how to I install this virtual machine component or the JVM that I need in order to run this program. Do anyone have any ideas what I need to do to make this work. thanks
Lillian

You might be able to download an updated version to what you have from this site.

http://www.java-virtual-machine.net/download.html

According to Microsoft, they will stop supporting the Java Virtual Machine in January 2004 and are recommending folks upgrade to the .NET technology.

You can read it here.

Hi Lillian:

I am experiencing the same problem with that program.

I downloaded it, I clicked on it to install... but nothing. It seemed to have downloaded well, but it did not open. I tried a 2nd time, and instead of making it to open automatically, I put it to save in My Documents. Well, there it was... but when I put "Open" or "Run"... it did not do anything !!

I wrote to them and all the steps were ok with my PC. My PC has a lot more than what they ask as system requirements.

Internet Options : Sun Java 2 v.1. 4.2 for <applet>
Browser : Microsoft Internet Explorer

But this happened with the link they gave me to test:

http://www.finalemusic.com:81/coda/...rom_view=search
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

Java(TM) Plug-in: Version 1.4.2
Using JRE version 1.4.2 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM ... etc.

Now I am waiting for their response. I was wondering if you were able to resolve your problem and how. Or if someone else has an idea.

Thanks in advance. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2004.

Don't forget to check your advanced internet settings - you may have VM installed, but have it disabled.

Thanks, Russ.

I do have it enabled in the Advanced Internet Settings. Last night I was reading the article jkhnwspec recommended us. I have Windows XP Home Edition with the SP1 already included, came this month with our new PC. Maybe there is the problem .

Again thanks

Microsoft was sued by Sun Microsystems over their java product "Virtual Machine" and has been forced to discontinue it. Instead you can go to http://www.sun.com and get their Java program.

http://www.java.com will take you directly to Sun's JAVA site. Click on the "Get it now" button.

That is the thing, that I do have that Java version, as you can see in my long post a couple of lines up here. Why is it that I still have problems with Finale Viewer?

Did you visit my earlier link and download the Microsoft version? If you have and are still having problems, you may want to contact the tech support at the site that provided you with the Finale Viewer software and explain the problem to them.

Can I have both Java programs installed at the same time without problems?

I had sent the people of Finale Viewer the answers to the questions they had presented me. It is Monday still in the USA... well, not sure if still working ours in their place. So I hope to have a response before Thursday. Again, thanks for your kind help .

I'm able to run both on my XP Pro machines, so it would seem you could.

You might try PM'ing Lillian40 to see if she got a solution to her problem too. She is not on here often, but does seem to visit once in a while.
