I just installed a ECS K7S5A Pro motherboard in my machine and now I cannot boot into Windows XP pro. I cant even boot into safe mode. I tried to reinstall OS but I got a STOP error that said IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. What the hell does that mean? What should I do?

Did you flash the BIOS on your new motherboard?

I would start there.

Also, do a google search on your stop error. You'll find the source/ solution.

Did you have XP installed already with a previous MB?

If you have replaced a MB you normally need to do a clean install of the OS

Win 9x you could sometimes get away with, but NT based OS's do not like having the MB changed.

This is most likely a hardware proplem, having seen this before I think I remember this had sometething to do with the jumper settings on the hard drive or CD, think this was a ibm drive that was set to master with a cd on the same cable as slave, the thing was that I had to set the hard to "force slave present" also it could be some wrong settings in CMOS setup, try to disable the smart test

Unless the old board is completely FUBAR, you might try putting it back in and trying this. Then try using the new board again. Just an idea.

I got away with doing that on Windows 98, but not on Windows 2000.

To do this on W2K or WXP use sysprep first with -pnp then switch the board.

Yeah I just did a clean install, must have been a driver conflict or something. I upgraded motherboards before in windows 2000 just fine so I thought it would be no problem with XP.
