| Hay guys I have fouind another coin around the house. This one I cannot tell the obverse from the reverse. This coin is about the size of the American nickle, but it is copper looking. One side a 10 in the center of the coin and under the 10 it says "pfennig". the 10 has a shaft of wheat on each side of it. One the other side of the coin a five leaf plant is in the center and around the plant it says: bundesrepublik deutschland 1982. can someone tell me something about this coin? | |

| You didn't know for sure because we have this silly habit of changing the name's of countries. If the people call their country Deutschland, why do we insist on calling it Germany. What we call Spain is Espana. I always thought this was foolish. | |

| Hey Tenman, you make those coins sound interesting when you describe them, you know, each countrys coins with different names, designs etc. Now, what do we have, the euro, yeh how many highly paid officials thought that one up. Really imaginative (not). I can just see it, big meetings over many months to think of a name for a currency to be used in europe, what do they come up with, "The Euro". | |

I would love to see what a "EURO" looks like, as I have never seen it. | |

| How many countrys make up the EU for which the EURO is the main currency? | |
| jimbo2002 2003-10-30, 3:17 am |
| At the last count I think it was 15 states in the EU. Some of the old eastern block states are keen to join, so it will probably get larger. If my history is correct, it all started after WW2, when France,Germany, Holland wanted to trade coal and steel at favourable prices so they formed a "common market". The UK voted in the early 70,s on whether to join and decided to join. The concept was maybe a good one but there are mixed feelings about the whole thing. As for the euro,it hasnt really took off in the UK. As far as I know everyone is still using sterling currency, I would imagine shops and banks would have to accept it, but Im not sure. To tell you the truth I dont know that much about the Euro, I never used it yet. But some of the other states in the EU are using it now as the main currency | |
